there's already 4 major fires around the town on sunday, with one large neighborhood off lake austin burned to the ground, a couple highways shut down, and some genius decides to play with some fireworks north of town and set off this yesterday morning:

If you have Briskets, hang them from the gutters.

Lemons, lemonade, etc.

Should be getting better today. Much less wind and at least 10 degrees cooler.

Wow, that looks like Denver in 2002 with the Hayden fire, only worse. I heard on the radio that arson is suspected for several of the fires.

Yeah, I was in Denver a few years ago, pretty sure it was after '02, and there was a pretty big fire easily seen from downtown. All I recall, it was 100+ for several days, kids, fireworks again the cause...parents said they were sorry.:shakehead

He added that it appears to have started near FM 1093.

Probably some idiot tossing a butt out the window.

The fire was reported to HFD at 3:17 p.m. When the first engine arrived nine minutes later, firefighters found a rapidly spreading grass fire that appeared to have started near a roadway. Commanders at the scene were concerned about nearby neighborhoods - principally Kings-land Estates, Windsor Park Lakes, Windsor Park Estates and Heatherwood Park - that potentially lay in the path of the fire if the wind began to blow from the south.

yep. f***ing smokers.

Not that this compares but I was awakened a couple of nights ago by the smell of smoke then my eyes began to sting. I checked outside, listened for sirens...nothing. Morning saw the landscape partially obscured with smoke...originating 400 miles away in the Boundry Waters area of Minnesota! Started by lightning on Aug. 18th. Been a rough summer!
