Hundreds of race car fans were in the stands at Exhibition Place, cheering on their favourite drivers as they zip past them at Honda Indy’s “Free Friday” event — where everyone was welcome to come down and watch practice runs.

Seeing all those names, if they weren't driving crapwagons, I would likely be watching. Some ChampCar nostalgia for sure.

They might as well have run a figure-8 race today. What a fuster cluck. :shakehead They may not have enough spare parts to finish the season if this keeps up. :saywhat: Oh, and Sparkle Pony gets out of her car to piss and moan after she gets wrecked, and they call her back into the car 2 laps down in 22nd. Mr. Judd gets a drive-through penalty for spinning Power, which is later overturned. :shakehead

JMO, but I don't think that Sparklepony wanted to be in the car anymore and she was passively aggressively was showing that to her team by hopping out while they were trying to re-wing the car.

And from what is being said on Twitter, during the post-race presser, Dixon didn't realize he had a hot mic and called Graham Rahal a d****head and a tool.

ETA: Power also called Tags a wanker during the post-race. At this rate, it might be easier to keep track of who is actually speaking to one another versus who is pissed at who.

Seemed like an effort to hold off on going to the full course cautions. I will give them credit for that.

Dixon said otherwise before the post-race presser. Said it (and other things- Rahal's a "Richard Head," apparently b/c he had the temerity not to get out of the way) to a "hot mic" to a reporter. The video is now pulled (at Chip's "urging?").:shakehead

The entire Race Control needs to be fired, Cotman too. Disgraceful all day.

OK. Al Jr. explained that post-race, but I'm not sure how coherent he was. The commentators all mentioned (if it was was just Boob Jenkins I'd write it off), but Beeker gave a full explanation about the call, which included the drive through. :saywhat:

When it was first reported on the broadcast, Kevin Lee went to ask Chip Ganassi what he thought about the penalty and Chip sort of had this look on his face like he didn't know what the hell Kevin was talking about. Right after that I peeked at Twitter and there were several people who had access to the race control audio that immediately said the reports of a penalty were erroneous.

My guess is that a penalty was discussed and maybe something was said that was misunderstood ... who the hell knows for sure? I don't think anybody in race control would have been talked out of it that easily if in fact they had decided to issue a penalty initially. Based on some of the previous calls this year, clearly nobody up there gives a **** what the teams have to say about any of these incidents.

I would agree that the officiating has been fairly inconsistent, but I don't think you can blame everyone involved. Ultimately Barnhart makes the decisions, and he's never proven himself to possess the ability to make consistent and rational decisions, IMO.

Well Bourdais actually kinda hit him, but in his defense, PT had already hit someone and was completely sideways by the time Sebass showed up.

As for today's race, what a pile of crap. Between the officiating, and the poor excuse for driving from these clowns. Very angry for Will Power, angry about what happened to Rahal, and overall wondering how half these morons have a competition license when talented drivers can't get a shot at anything.

Some of the worst driving I've ever seen in a professional race. The indoor aces I race with in karts at Cal Speed are great, but this race made them look like the greatest drivers in the history of the world. That just should not be. Jesus.

This entry is a nice piece of writing where he calls out his fellow drivers & the IRL officiating for the what the race turned into. Also, I am impressed that his drive raised $75,000 CAD for Make-A-Wish. At least some good came out of that fiasco.

PT's blog.

I was speaking to Justin afterward – obviously he was upset with what happened to him – and he said he was going to see Race Control. I said, “Why? You might as well take your hand and slam it in the door. You'll get more satisfaction out of it. And if you go down there you'll leave more upset than you already are.”

Why re-state the obvious? That race was a fuster cluck on all levels...from race control to driving to commentary (from Boob Jenkins calling the race to the fact that no one in the booth could get the 'penalty' call straight). :shakehead :saywhat:

Was that video a joke? Were there really that many yellows? I don't watch the races. I knew the cars were still ugly, but I had no idea the racing was still this bad. Gosh. :shakehead I'm really not being sarcastic; I guess part of me was hoping it was better now (even though I still can't bring myself to actually watch it). Except when I indulge in a little nostalgia-fest over on YouTube, I'm not even that mad about all this anymore. Sad, sad, sad.

OK, I just made myself watch it. Observed objectively, the driving was pretty amazing. I mean--it's a wonder any of them got to the finish line the way they had to thread the needle so many times.

Loved the "double file" restarts. :shakehead
