hoodlums :gomer: (http://www.vancouversun.com/news/Downtown+Vancouver+Rocked+Stanley+Post+Game+Riot/4953593/story.html)

I've been known to burn a couch or two, and the odd dumpster every now and then, but I thought Canadiens were supposed to be so polite. :D

Hockey fans. 2 bit hoods by association. Hope the authorities identify all the scumbuckets in the photos and lash them to a log floating down the river and out to the Pacific. :shakehead

Part of the problem was that at puck drop last night there were over 100k fans in downtown Vancouver watching the game on large screens. Fans kept pouring in as the game went on. I have a feeling that Vancouver officials knew rioting would happen regardless of the results of the game. It was well publicized that liquor stores closed early and some stores even boarded up their windows to prevent looting.

However, I'm pleasantly surprised by the number of people that have stepped up in the social media channels to provide photos, tag people in said photos, and even volunteer to help clean up downtown Vancouver.

I believe that the vast majority of Canucks fans (and hockey fans) are good people. It's a shame that a few hooligans ruin things for all.

I also noted that Philly fans invaded Beantown the other night chanting BS after the Canuck (Russell?) went down early in the first in game 6 after being boarded. :saywhat:

Stayed up last night watching CTV's local channel which ran full in-depth (and in the crowd) coverage.

Never been more disgusted to be Canadian than I am now. High praise & kudos to the few people who stood up to the mob (and in some cases kicked and beaten down by :irked: )

Already facebook groups started to tag photos and people and to help those come to justice.

As a friend of mine put it.... In this day and age, don't worry about big brother, all the little brothers with their pics and vids will take care of it.

I'm thinking that things would not go smoothly in Salt Lake where a very high percentage of people carry. We have more than a few folks around here who routinely open carry. Utah = most guns/capita, probably in the world.

The asshats bashing the car do not look like hockey fans, they look like the anarchist jacktard segment of Vancouver's population. There is no shortage of them in the city.

... but I thought Canadiens were supposed to be so polite. :DThey rioted when the Rangers beat them in 94.

Talking to my several acquaintances in the Great White North today I sense that this has stirred a simmering animosity for Vancouver among those in the rest of the nation.

To quote a few
Clearly they are not smoking as much pot as they say they do. ;-) and
The rap I have heard about Vancouver is that they think they are so enlightened and lotus-land like, but they are really just a bunch of red necks.

At least they have health care. ;)

I was hoping for a Vancouver win to bring the Cup back where it belongs and away from Boston which, well... I won't go there. But I didn't even think about burning a couch last night.

I'm afraid I had lost all respect for them by the way they played. I know hockey is an extreme sport but, IMHO, they crossed the line this time (no pun intended). In this instance, I was elated that Boston won. The aftermath only confirmed it.

You mean that acting like Greg Louganis every time a Bruin so much as looked at them isn't the way champions play? I agree with you there.

Scotiabank was running a great ad campaign on CBC. They were calling out that it's been 18 years since the Cup was back home in Canada, meaning these Cup finals weren't just a sport, they were a rescue mission. They updated the ads after every game. I admire their creativity & the work that went into getting that done and the right ad running at the right time.

From what I've seen, calling this event a 'riot' is a disservice to the word 'riot'.

Some punks using this as an excuse to do some damage and the rest trying to capture it on their mobiles for YouTube. :gomer:

There was a documentary on HBO recently about the Philly Flyers and the Bullies of Broad Street. Very entertaining, but back then it was the Montreal Canadiens who had to rescue the Cup from the uncivilized brawling barbarians.

I think Canadians rioting in the streets is another sign of the Apocalypse.

I think Canadians rioting in the streets is another sign of the Apocalypse.

Montreal fans did it a couple of years ago when the Habs beat the Bruins in the first round. Not the finals. The first round.

I love that photo with the signed apology wall. That says a lot about the good people of Vancouver.

Jim Carrey on the riot "Low self esteem and Molson Export do not mix."

People are very embarassed and angry here over what happened.

It was madness.

Beatings of defenseless people.

Girls looting purses and talking to reporters about it
with the bags in their hands and their faces not hidden.

Too much drugs and alcohol ,crowd mentality, lots of idiots who planned to cause trouble and not enough preparation by the city.

From CBC Reporter Stephen Quinn: VPD identify suspects: Looking for 537 guys named Burrows, 931 named Kesler, 1768 named Sedin, 2671 named Luongo. :D

Seriously though, I'm glad people are starting to turn themselves in, but the number of 17-18 year olds involved is disturbing.

On the flip side, it was pretty cool to be in Boston when they won and for the parade. People were pouring into the city for Game 7 and there was plenty of joy in the streets.

7 people arrested after they won and 9 during the parade. Our rental was parked on the street within 1 block of TD Garden and survived. :) (Had to park elsewhere for the parade.)

A family member told The Province the media should be cautious about feeding into the lynch-mob mentality that is occurring on Internet sites as a result of the astonishing pictures.

The person said the youth was egged on by the crowd and noted that the young man is currently under a great deal of pressure.
