Both the GT1 series and the GT3 series were in Silverstone this weekend and boy did they put on a show!

First the GT3 guys have an epic battle over 7 spots for 12 minutes:

Then the GT1 guys came out and gave us this incredible finish:

Good racing.

The GT1 battle without commentary but with driver interviews was great.

The Nissan with a V8 is plain daft...defeats the purpose of GT racing. It's as much against the spirit of the category as the 427 Monaros were in the Bathurst 24 hour races...

What is wrong with replacing a twin turbo V6 with an NA V8? The V6 does not have the torque needed for GT-1 racing. They made that decision years ago.

Thanks for that:thumbup: Couple of obversations: Not even a LOCAL yellow for the Ferrari sideways to traffic ? Yeow! Even sequential shifting is a lot more fun to watch than hands never leaving the wheel.:) Hope all 312 fans enjoyed the racing as much as I did! Would love to see road racing here with fields full of Camaros, Mustangs and Challengers. (glad to see one Corvette there at the end) Oh, and nice the safety guys could finally get that driver a fire extinguisher then remain safely behind the barrier:D I'll leave the technical arguments to you guys, but that was sure fun to watch.

then they should build a street-going V8 so they can race it

this kind of GT should be street-derived IMO

Maybe but the street version is awd too. The GT1 car is rear wheel drive. It is what it is. At least someone is putting cars on the track.

And speaking of Nissans there was this bit of epic stupidity at Silverstone.

To clear things up a bit, Richard Westbrook was driving the black Nissan and he punted Stefan Mucke's DBR9. For that move the stewards came up with this penalty:

"That Richard Westbrook caused a collision with car #8 and receives a drop of 3 grid places suspended for 3 events."

So a lap or so later Mucke crashed out the Nissan by being an ass. Mucke was flipping off Westbrook, who was very slow due to damage, and did not have his hand on the wheel and he managed to clip the Nissan. This was in the hanger straight...:eek: :shakehead

The result of that was:

“A drop of 10 grid positions for the next race the driver, Stefan Mücke, takes the start."

”To report the driver, Stefan Mücke, to his ASN (DMSB) in consequence of his behaviour in this event with the recommendation to withdraw his driving licence immediately and act accordingly.”

Mucke is set to drive the #009 Aston Martin at Le Mans this week. So the question is will he?

FIA GT1 sounds like European NASCAR. :gomer:

Take away a lot of downforce, make the tires a bit harder (and protecting the wheels with fenders also helps) and PRESTO! great racing, like we had at all levels in the good old days.

Thanks for posting!
