Good Blog post from Will Buxton today, who is in Bahrain for what was supposed to be a GP2 weekend.

Buxton is back in England. He and just about everybody else wasted no time getting the hell out of there as soon as the race was cancelled.

BBC pit-lane reporter Ted Kravitz: "Arriving halfway through the first day in Barcelona it's clear the whole of the Formula 1 paddock's mind is on Bahrain. Team representatives are gathering here for a meeting later this evening and the general secretary of teams' organisation Fota is also here. Following Bernie Ecclestone's initial pessimism, the mood is increasingly that not only will the test, which begins on 3 March, not go ahead but the race is looking like becoming impossible to stage, for obvious reasons. The teams need to make a decision as far as the test goes by Monday lunchtime because that will affect whether they send their race trucks back to the factories or to another testing venue in Europe."

Bahrain's protesters demand royals cancels F1 race

Formula One's season-opening grand prix in Bahrain could be in jeopardy as newly emboldened protesters in Manama call for the royal family to scrap what they see as a costly vanity project

those trying to oust the island's dynasty know they have an important political tool in the Bahrain GP.

"The race has been the prince's dream since he was a child," Dhani said. "He wants to negotiate so he can fulfill this dream, and it makes me sad that his dream is more dear to him than the needs of his people."
F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone said Sunday he would rely on the prince, who also is deputy supreme commander of the armed forces, to decide whether the grand prix will take place.

the crown prince — who owns the F1 contract — only offered talk to the opposition after the popular uprising cast doubt on the race.

"The F1 is a big festival for us, too, and I love it," Dhani said. "But our demands are worth sacrificing the race for."

Sounds more and more like this race isn't going to happen on schedule.
Hey Bernie, now your race is a factor in regime change!

Stick a fork in it.

Manama: Gulf News sources in Bahrain can confirm that the Bahrain Grand Prix, scheduled for the weekend of March 11-13 will be rescheduled to the end of the season, taking place after the Kuala Lumpur GP and before the final race of the seaon in Abu Dhabi.
"We have been told to step down our operations," an official with a German race team said last night.

Kind of like Jurassic Park. You spend so much time wondering if you can, you forget to ask yourself if you should.

Maybe there's room for another warm-up race in Baltimore. OR, Bernie could check out the possibilities in Tripoli?
