With HD Theater dropping WRC for 2011, we in the US have to rely on underground feeds, torrents, and various youtube channels to feed our hunger for a bit of rallying. For those who haven't yet heard, the WRC got kicked off this weekend in Sweden and I found a youtube channel that uploads every day of the coverage including the new for 2011 "Power Stages" which are special stages that are shown live around the world and award points to the top 3 in that stage. Live rallying is just so much better than the highlighted versions we have been used to for as long as I can remember so I suggest you check it out!

Here's the link to it: http://www.youtube.com/user/Antystenes1

With the new regulations there are now brand new cars with 1.6 liter turbos and less electronic aids like paddle shifters and center differentials so the cars are harder to drive and rely more on driver instinct and less on how much money your manufacturer is pumping into your team. With all this change it levels the playing field and allows privateers to fight for wins again. I provided a bit of info on the 2011 season below so you can catch up on what's new.

Here's the new cars for 2011:

Citroen DS3 WRC

There is also a WRC app for the iPhone that has live timing and short videos. It okay, at least it is free.

What's wrong with the power stages? Sure it gives extra points but its live rallying that's broadcast on live on tv for most of the world. That kind of publicity and potential viewers can't be a bad thing.

Ahh...so now it's "made for TV"? Hope THAT turns out OK...for the WRC.

They can't afford to put up cameras along the full length of every stage. The costs are insane so they decided to just do a subset really well and offer up a point or two to convince the drivers to push no matter where they are in the overall standings. They are good stages and the coverage is the best we have seen in years. Quit whinging.

The same guy just posted this 2011 WRC car tech show.
Quite a bit on the Prodrive Mini Cooper that is in testing at the moment.

So pissed about HD Theater dropping WRC, I really enjoyed the programming. WRC in bite size bits! They will probably replace it with ANOTHER reality show about some rugged job.

It's not the coverage I'm complaning about! It's the bastardisation of the sport. SupeRally was bad enough, but bonus points? Wtf?!?
