How do they keep the flywheel from cutting the driver in half in a big crash?

As far as spinning bits go 37K really isn't all that fast. Most midrange centrifuges spin that fast and they can fully contain a spindle failure at speed, hell they can contain 120K failures. The flywheel can be housed so it isn't an issue.

It's not just the RPM, there is also the weight, how big is that thing? Neat car, of course it probably will never show up in the ALMS full series. :mad:

Those multiple engines make it far faster. The electric engines are involve in braking, traction control and all manner of other wizardry. They are nowhere near dead weight at any time.

I wouldn't be surprised if a fuel only rear wheel drive only streetable two-seater version pops up in a few years because of tremendous demand by Porschephiles.

To be precise - the 918 has only one engine. The electric propulsion unit is a motor, not an engine ;)
