Racing lost it's brightest star that day. I still remember sitting in my living room as a 6 year old, putting off the pumpkin carving party we were having so I could watch the last CART race of the year. Moore was easily my favorite driver and to see his death announced live on TV in front of my eyes was devastating. There is no doubt in my mind that he would be a multi-time champion by this point on his life. The incredible moves he pulled at Rio '98, Michigan '98 and the memories he made at Milwaukee and Homestead over the years make that very clear. To this day his death is still the only one that I really remember very vividly. I was too young to remember Imola '94 for Senna's and Ratzenberger's crashes, and Earnhardt's crash for one reason or another isn't really embedded in my memory to the same extent as Moore's. RIP Greg :(

Such a terrible loss. RIP, Greg.

I prefer to remember him like this:

:)

I'll never forget the save he made coming out of turn 2 @ MIS during the real US 500. Sadly it was eerily similar to the shunt that cost him his life @ Fontana in '99. :(

RIP, #99.

Same thing turn 3 at Milwaukee the year he died. The most unbelievable save I've EVER seen. Talked to him, got his autograph, coolest, most humble guy ever. :(

To me, this is THE racing picture. The most poignant of all. Beauty, longing, and remembrance all in one.

I always wake up on Halloween with a feeling of foreboding and I can never quite put my finger on it. I shake it off as I get up. Then I check in with my friends here at OC and remember that day all over again. Playing in my mind's eye. Just like it was yesterday. I'm sure there's another thread here about it also. Hugs all around you guys.

When I sing Hotel Calif with my band I often change the words to " we haven't seen that spirit here since, 1999".

I almost lose it every time I do that.

Kind of ironic, what made me think of it is just before that line I changed Henley sings- "so I called up the Captain, please bring my wine"...:(

Hands down the worst day at the track I have ever had.
