Wow, that one looks much worse than the three at Barber.

http://www.racer.com/championship-contenders-unveil-new-izod-indycar-series-trophy/article/179852/

I don't get it. If you are going to make an icon for your series why on earth would you commission a smaller version of an installation at an Alabama road course?

I am very surprised that they didn't mention that the trophy is a take on Ted Gall's The Chase at Barber. The IndyCar version really looks to be in serious pain, perhaps Gall was inspired by the pain and sorrow of all the AOW racing fans. Now my question is did he make a new sculpture for the trophy or was that an un-used test model for The Chase?

And then there is the professionalism of the IndyCar press office where they kept talking up the wood base of that thing and yet they spelled it incorrectly every single time. It is African Padauk not Pedauk.

From the cognescenti who recognize it as a rip off to the illiterati who just think it's dude with a giant (what the H is that on the front?) falling off a wheel. Who's gonna like it?

I find it revolting. :yuck: I don't like the image and I don't like the material it's made of. In fact, it's sort of appropriate for exactly how I feel about the whole League. It's embarrassing. No wonder Power can't keep a straight face.

It's like they are idiot savants with special powers. You'd think just by random chance they would occasionally get something right, but you'd be wrong. These folks are capable of getting it wrong 100% of the time which is superhuman. :gomer: An appropriate trophy would be a large 1960's era douche bag with a dangling nozzle because they like tradition so much....

"The drivers were really tired of getting bowling trophies," Gall said. "They're bowls or something that doesn't relate to what they're doing. IZOD has gone beyond other sports.

Somehow I doubt that, but....Of all the possible issues with the IRL, I am glad they chose to fix this one. :shakehead

Rather than give out the run-of-the-mill trophy, they're giving artwork to the drivers about what they are."

And this shows they are....????

I checked in on the race during a break in petit le mans. Honestly I have seen bigger crowds on a saturday night at flemington speedway to watch the local modifieds. They only sold tickets in 1 section about 200 feet wide and even that was half full. Of course it comes as no surprise to us but this was bad even by their standards...
