I've been listening to The Steeldrivers. They're... Americana. Ok, some might say Bluegrass but the writing a and lead vocal give a bit more edge than your typical Bluegrass.

I came across them because it's a project of one of my favorite blues players, Mike Henderson, who writes and plays Mandolin for the Steeldrivers. His other projects have been country (solo) and blues (with the Bluebloods).

Before I had my punk cred down ;), I remember a girl showing up for school with a mohawk, a big safety pin through her face and a purple and green Naked Raygun shirt. I remember thinking "I don't know who Naked Raygun is, but I'm gonna' find out".

I don't know if I have a dream lineup, but they and the Cro-Mags would be on it. I still think Age of Quarrel is one of the best front-to-back punk records ever made.

Ritchie Blackmore left and was replaced by funkifusion James Gang guitarist Tommy Bolin. The result was a funk rock and soul masterpiece. Although Blackmore is my number one musician still, I come back to this album more than any other in the Purple catalog. It's the freedom, man!

That was more popular then Short Skirt. Again, I never knew who did this song. I kind of figured when I saw they had a half a dozen or so albums spread out over something like 15 years they must have some good.

They will definitely be part of my Christmas day order of CDs from Amazon I want that I did not get as gifts and I will be listening to this on the slopes in a few weeks.

(I wonder if ordering Natasha Beningfield, Springsteen, Cake, Jack Johnson and the New Pornographers at the same time will break Amazon's computer program that predicts what type of music I would be interested in buying).

Definitely the Blast Tyrant deluxe edition. The extra "Basket of Eggs" cuts are well worth a little extra. After that Robot Hive Exodus. I'm not as enthused about their latest Strange Cousins from the West although it does have some good stuff.

Yeah, that's probably good advice if you're coming from "Electric Worry." Their earlier stuff has a lot less of the bluesy vibe and was straight-up guitar/bass/drums/vocals- no organs, no harmonicas.

Album I've played the most lately is Lynyrd Skynyrd's new one Last of a Dying Breed. It's brilliant from start to finish. Great lyrics, great songs, great production and goes from A to B without any drop in quality. I love it to death. It really caught me by surprise. Of course, you go see them and they do one song off it. It's the best.
