Ford to end production of Mercury. (http://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/03/business/03mercury.html?hpw)
I won't miss the car but I will miss the woman they use in the commercials, Jill Wagner.

Thank goodness for Wipeout. :)
Hopefully Ford can find some more work for Ms. Wagner.
My very first car was a '69 Cougar. :)

Not too surprised. And not too disappointed. Styling wise Mercury always seemed to screw up the occasional good idea at Ford by adding chrome and widgets for the sake of adding chrome and widgets.

No doubt. She is SMOKIN' hot. Gotta get into a Mercury... :gomer:

I didn't get what you were saying but now I see that it is a show and she is on it.

I did not know they still made Mercury Cars so I guess they won't be missed.

One of my first cars was a '62 Mercury S-55, 406 3x2v, two-tone factory pink and lavender. A total sled. Quite possibly the coolest taillights on the planet. I loved that car.

It makes sense. Mercury has been the most pointless auto brand for quite some time now. Their last really unique model was the last Cougar, I think. Nice looking coupe but as usual, having to sell through Mercury dealers meant softening up an otherwise decent chasis. Snore.

Just the other day I saw one of the old cougers driving down the road with one headlight, since the headlight cover mechanisms always break on those things. We used to call them cyclops.

Just hasn't been a good 12 months for car companies named after planets.
Read some stuff about Lincoln planning to expand their lineup to fill some of gap at L/M dealerships, including a cushy compact.
But I think if Ford wants Lincoln to stand alone as an upscale brand they need to really clean house on their dealer network. It's been a while since I've been in an L/M dealership but they've never appeared much more upscale to me than your typical Ford dealership. Time to throw out the eighties vinyl couches and office cubes and polish things up a bit.
