At Sonoma, anyway. Two time DTM champ and currently 2nd in the DTM standings, as well as a 3 time IRC champ, Mattias Ekstrom says he'd "be glad to help out" NASCAB's Team Red Bull. How 'bout that, 'CAB news I actually like hearing! Lookin' for a Speed/Ekstrom 1-2:rofl: (Testing today at VIR. Good choice.)

Should be interesting to see if he's able to move from a 2300lb car with sticky tires to a 3450lb. car with more power on harder tires. Ekstrom is a helluva drivers so he may do well. More probable though without being familiar with the track or the other drivers is that he'll have a challenge that's impossible to overcome.

I firmly believe the 'road runners' advantage died years ago as the regular drivers went out taking lessons at the tracks and the fact that there are a few more regular Nascar drivers who were not traditional short trackers...

It also doesn't help that the 'ringers' tend to be stuck in one-offs using pick-up (no pun intended) crews or in tail-end cars with revolving driver lineups. Add in a general unfamiliarity with the equipment and crew and you've got a situation in which even the best driver in the world will struggle.

It'll be pretty hilarious if Ekstrom spanks Speed's ego right off the bat, though. :D

This isn't official. Ekstrom is only testing at this moment.

Would be nice if he beats Speed even if its just at a test. In a world based on merit Ekstrom is a GP driver. Of course, he is pretty happy where he's at.

Mateschitz was so hot for an American that Speed might still be in F1 if he wasn't such a Dick. He wasn't hopeless, just tier 2 F1 talent. Of course, Franz Tost isn't exactly Miss Congeniality either. They deserved to be stuck with each other for a long time.

And the fact that if you can't get past someone, you just punt them. Even if you're a lap down.

Probably the biggest factor right there if your only there for one race.

Rumour in OZ has Rick 'Crash Bandicoot' Kelly (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rick_Kelly) in at Watkins Glen as Ekstrom is unavailable.

That'd be hilarious. That guy makes red necks look educated.

And didn't they reconfigure the road courses to make them a bit easier? I seem to remember some changes at Sears Poin - oops, Sonoma.

Anyway, even if a ringer did build up an advantage, there are always plenty of yellows to make sure that Dale, Dale, and his other brother Dale can get close enough to punt him off the track.

It won't be as entertaining as when they had a microphone on Dick Johnson when he did a round over here. Had that broadcast happened in the modern era, his fines would have been higher than Janet Jackson's, I'm pretty sure.

The bogan holds a variety of convictions, which, whilst internally inconsistent, are rarely open to negotiation. These opinions are based largely on the incomprehensible and contradictory whisperings of the trashmedia kraken. Because the bogan is just a soggy rodent in the waters of political discourse, it will cling to these convictions like a piece of barnacled flotsam in a particularly savage maelstrom. The bogan can often be seen shouting in an incoherent and grammatically wrong fashion as it circles the political suckhole.

The bogan, uninterested in the high falutin’ opinions of ivory tower academics, will not have studied the relevant subject matter in even the most cursory manner. Being from the ‘real world’, the bogan understands things on a higher level than a mere academic. It is just as well the bogan has a preternatural sense for how things are in the ‘real world’, because it gets its news and views as part of the blinkered programming of one of three commercial television networks.

Then again probably not. A quick scan makes me believe it would violate the OC no politics rule. Sure... It's not your politics, but. :shakehead
