One of my favorites, pure class through and through. I recently watched her in Cabin in the Sky, what a great picture. :(
One word: class. RIP. :(

In the mid 70's I recall seeing her on TV without knowing anything about her and was astounded to learn she was pushing 60 even though I would have thought she was around my mom's age who was 20 years younger. Everytime I see Halle Berry I can't help but think of Lena and how much more talent she had and how much farther she could go today (and that is not meant as a bust on Halle).
This is an interesting Obit from the NYTimes:

I didn't know her name, but I recognized her face immediately. :(

Indeed. Striking resemblance in appearance to Halle, but not talent wise. One of the pieces I read about her noted that she was born 40 years too early.

A PS on the Obit I posted. Of course much of it touchs on race. At the end it mentions as a black she could not own property/live in Hollywood, so she had a white straw man rent a place there for her, and when people found out they circulated a petition, which really POed the guy across the street, one Humphery Bagart, who sent word to her to let him know if any one ever bothered her.

While looking at Sesame Street there are also these two:
It's not easy being green (http://www.sesamestreet.org/video_player/-/pgpv/videoplayer/0/ffe1ca80-1574-11dd-bb51-597ab51d2e81/lena_horne_bein_green)
How do you do (http://www.sesamestreet.org/video_player/-/pgpv/videoplayer/0/d686584f-1592-11dd-b10a-6119e86ae19b/lena_horne_how_do_you_do_)
Also if you are familiar with the current Sesame Streets you will quickly notice the difference between the Frank Ox version of Grover on this video and the Eric Jacobson version on the last 8 years of the show.
