Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake says the race "will change the way the world sees Baltimore."

The city approved using $7.75 million in state and federal grants to make necessary road improvements for the inaugural race, which would be held in August 2011.

Pafftard is probably creaming his panties over this...but wait, it's not an oval. So he's on suicide watch again.

Actually, diversion of state and federal grant moneys to some politician's pet project rather than actually benefiting the citizens is exactly how the world sees Baltimore. Party on Mayor Stephane.

Outrage over public money spent on racing events used to be a favorite lemming pastime. I'm sure they're totting up the total economic impact to justify it right now. :D

As *oc* Austin is so fond of mindlessly repeating, "those are our airplanes now".

The Governor is the former mayor in Balm'ore, so no wonder he ponied up cash that the state doesn't have. I guess I can look forward to another tax increase from the fools in Annapolis.

They've changed up the track map a bit from when we last saw it and got rid of 1 of those god awful hairpins. It's actually not too bad considering what it could have been but jesus that pit lane does have a bit of a late 90's era houston quality to it.

oh and they moved the date to labor day weekend

Labor day? How appropriate. Everyone will have to work overtime to help cover the losses!

There is no pit lane, but there is a "Pit Row".

I think they should just launch the cars into the harbor. Maybe then they can get Red Bull to sponsor the event.
