World Rally is back on HD Theater starting 3/18 with a new series name to foil your season pass from last season. Just a couple of weeks behind this time. :D

haha You're actually a few days late for that. The 1st race aired last weekend from Sweden.

Nice they've continued this coverage. HDT is doing a decent job with coverage of events like rally, speedway, Isle of Man that don't lend themselves to comprehensive coverage.

Stupid HDT changed the series name or my Season Pass would have got it. I blame you for not alerting me. :D

Mehico was pretty mundane. Good to see that Block isn't completely out of his element in the big show. Citroen really seemed to have it on the Fords in the altitude.

Sorry I missed Sweden. Was it a straight up win for Hirvonen or did Loeb have troubles?

The headline here pretty much says it all.

Agreed on Mexico. Sorry to see Kimi stuff it.

Hilarious, thanks for posting it.

I once asked Bill why he insisted on going through every spectator section crossed up and with the engine banging off the limiter. "Dude," he said, "I don't care if it costs me a couple of tenths. It makes the fans go nuts."

If that wasn't enough, [redacted]ing Kimi Raikkonen launched his car off the side of the cliff.

This is how he straightened his chassis:

Caswell: "This is after a pull. Figure it took 20 hard hits on the road to get it where it was, it takes 20 hard pulls to get it straightened back out. We never slow-pulled. Always violent. Always to eleven."

Holy cow. How did I just see this thread? Thanks guys. Sorry I missed Sweden (and Mexico) but I'll try to be there for the rest of the season. About the only thing I actually ENJOY watching in the motor sports world these days.

The co-driver's followup (http://jalopnik.com/5500013/i-co+drove-the-500-craigslist-rally-car).

As we tried to cross back over we got caught on a cross over road between bridge one and bridge two leading between Laredo, TX and Nuevo Laredo, MX. The road is two lanes wide with concrete barriers a foot and a half high on either side. Nothing out of the ordinary, until a cartel decided to make war in front of us. We rounded what had to be the only corner on the mile long road when a car pulled across the path blocking us in. With the trailer we had no way of turning around. Suddenly dozens of people ran out of nearby buildings brandishing machine guns. We spent a frantic ten minutes backing up to the sounds of Spanish screaming and automatic weapons fire. Our broker simply explained it as "Mexico, she has problems."

Great read. Musta been a hard decision between doing the rally in Mexico or a walking tour of Afghanistan. :gomer: One thing for certain, in a spec racing, videogame, mototainment world this story stands out.

Argh! WOW cable just dropped HDNET and HDNET Movies. I'd love to pay them back by cancelling the extra cost HD Pak (which is only three channels now) but it includes HDT.

Is World Rally coverage worth $10 per month? :( Maybe I'll drop it when the season is over and pick it back up if they have coverage again next year.

Man, that's a teeth grinder. WRC alone is a tough call but their Isle of Man TT week and Speedway Grand Prix series have got me hooked. I've been waiting all my life for good IoM coverage.

It's too much to ask for SPEED to carry some of this stuff, might mean not airing the Hillbilly Talent Show or some other crap over and over and over...:yuck:

oc My wife threatens to leave me every year during the Isle of Man TT. Something about sitting on the couch every night and not doing anything else. Then she wonders why I have to watch reruns of every episode over and over again. Can you believe that?? :)

Yes, very hard to believe.

My wife cuts me some slack because our son likes to come over and watch. She also doesn't want to say anything that would cause me to recall tales of my haj of old to manxland for the 11,345th time. Or, (horror) break out pictures of identical looking guys crouched on skinny little motorcycles in all black leathers, pudding bowl helmets and goggles against a blurry green background.... :D :gomer:

Absolutely, but Rupert Murdoch never lost any money by overestimating the level of his audience. For every one of us that wants to see legitimate racing or vintage racing he knows that are a dozen chucklehead mouth breathers that will drool through the contrived reality crap he shovels.

Missed this when you asked originally. "WOW" is Wide Open West (wowway.com). They've been much better than Insight (our other option) except for dropping HDNET.

Meanwhile in the WRC, if you've tuned out because Loeb was making every race a snooze you missed an great event in New Zealand.

Great news. There's a touch of irony there though. MINI earned its racing pedigree beating the "big cars" at Monte Carlo with their tiny Coopers. Now they'll race their bigger Countryman while Ford is downsizing their WRC cars to Fiestas.
