Just this one observation then no more. A 13 paragraph AP article in this morning's sports page on the Ca. race yesterday. One brief mention of Kyle Busch winning, and a 2nd sentence noting Logano's heartbreak at losing after having been in front for most of the race. ELEVEN paragraphs (with photo) filled with quotes devoted to the 31st place finish of The Princess. No, I don't blame her, but may blood shoot out of my eyes the next time I watch (which I didn't) or read something like that EVER again. It's all yours, Trish!;)

I don't actually follow the Nationwide series very closely.

This is for you. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5m23d8fEt-k You're welcome.:D

I wonder if NASCAR isn't trying to ruin her rather than promote her.

They'll ride her hard and put her away wet. She'll never turn a wheel in cabs is my guess.

I think I got an edited version of the same AP race report in the paper here. It ran only 6 1/2 column inches, 3 1/2 of which (including the lead ΒΆ ) were devoted to the 31st place finisher. I also heard a Fox Radio talking head refer to the Princess Permapout as "Danica Pornikova" -- I wonder what that guy has been reading on the internet in his show prep?

No. Kudos to that guy! Who was it? He was almost certainly referring to AK's similar lack of success vs. obscene attention ratio. Pretty sure he wasn't confusing "other" stats.

NASCAR and the princess are made for each other. It's a perfect storm of bald faced commercialism and ambition. If they can get her to the point where she can make the race every week in a cup car she's golden.

I actually watched some of that race (there was literally nothing on TV that was even bearable). Not only can the commentators not say simple names like Braun and Gaughan, the fawning over the 31st place winner was just unbelievable! They showed footage of her walking away from the car post race before they even interviewed the winner!

Somebody on during the 9am -- 10am ET slot Sunday morning. I just remember that we bandied "Danica Pornikova" about for a time here a number of years ago until we wore it out. I figured we were being unfair to Kornikova because she was actually a winner in doubles and had a couple of Grand Slam doubles plates on her bookshelves.

It's also unfair because Kornikova is good looking.

Yes, the "other stats" to which I was referring. I guess we could call them "bookshelves" :)

NASCAR.com has finally added driver scanners for the Nationwide series. I'm pretty sure it's because of Danica. And you can listen for free today courtesy of Nationwide Insurance. This should be good for some laughs.

Versus has an hour long Danicle special next Saturday 3/6/ called "Danica's Decade"..... She is winning the "most hyped journeyman driver" competition going away. Five years, 1 win, 4 podiums, 3 poles, but hey, a lot of people and done worse I guess.

NASCAR seems perfect for her because it's all about what sells and less about who wins. They are selling driver/personalities and race results don't correlate to most popular drivers. She's going to have to find the stones to draft and run close though or it's not going to happen. She doesn't have to win but I doubt it would do to have her be a rolling chicane for more than a season or two.
