So that link emjaya threw up in the F1 Campos thread, had links in it that talked about the continuation of the Gold Coast race, the failure of A1GP to show up last year, and how they'll turn it around.

Some major mis-management has surfaced (like how the gov't paid the promoter a day after A1GP began liquidation  ) http://www.goldcoast.com.au/article/2010/02/03/184845_news.html

But they are banking the continuation of the gold coast indy on the V8 Supercars.... http://www.goldcoast.com.au/article/2010/02/04/184855_gold-coast-supergp.html

They are changing the course as well..... http://www.goldcoast.com.au/uploads2/Indy_track.pdf

no need to apologise, I am so out of it with regards to motorsport that it was all new news to me, so I found it interesting about what happened with the race...

What's the logic for abandoning 1/3 of the course?

Do those stands by the beach face the course or the beach? :gomer:

Tony Cochrane has a mortal fear of long racetracks because the small minded twerps who go to their races can't concentrate if they don't see a car every 30 seconds. Combine a NASCAR fanboy with the worst bits of a short track dirt late model fan and then add 63 lashings of bogan.

A couple of reasons: there is a light rail going though that cut off area soon, and with less track they can bring the costs down on the set up, tv camera's and cable, less security bozo's, flag marshalls, and so on.

It's fingernail on the clifftop for the event at the moment, the local council and residents are turning against the whole thing. The cavier and champer's crowd has long gone, and all is left is a lot of boozy bogans from Brisbane that don't spend as much cash.

to me, there are two parts that racefans will miss... the end of surfers paradise blvd always seemed to be a good passing spot (and a place for big shunts when they got the brake point wrong or lost brakes altogether, right patreek?)

And then the chicane with the island green, where the old track meets back up with the revised circuit...
