I am watching it, too.

I wonder if NBC and Leno realize the backlash they will receive if they actually do this.

And by the way, does anyone actually find Leno to be funny? :crickets:

It's been comedy gold. I enjoyed hearing Letterman talk about it last night. Talking about his days dealing with NBC executives, "You can't go walking around stupid and expect to be invited to parties."

Here's hoping Jay returns to his blockbuster movie career very soon.

Good for Conan.
The winning bid was $45 million, of which $12 million goes to Conan's staff.

from article:
And, speaking of a push to get a severance deal for his staff from NBC, O'Brien joked, "At first they thought I was gullible. They said the staff would be taken to a big farm, where they'd be allowed to run free forever."

Agreed, but my first and most unforgettable recollection of The Tonight Show was watching Jack Paar at my grandparents' (I wasn't allowed to stay up anywhere near that late at home). Damn, I am an old fart

The current crop of late night hosts cannot hold a candle :yuck:

But Jay does get  for his car collection (unfortunately, doesn't make him any funnier) and Letterman gets a BIG  for his :gomer: background that he can't seem to leave behind...

there's certainly a demographic difference between conan and chin.

above a certain age there's the folks who like knock knock who's there, and tuesday night's "let's play google. 'infidelity + viagra + AARP = OH LOOK, IT'S DAVE LETTERMAN!" jokes...

below that age there's those who like funny.

I like his cars.

I also haven't watched the Tonight Show in maybe 30 years. I'm not quite sure who does watch these talk shows.

When there is a The Daily Show, what else do you need?

Well, The Daily Show as we know it is only ~10 years old. Before that Carson was great, as was the original Letterman and then O'Brien. I only watch these shows occasionally now, but I'm guessing there's a demo that grew up watching them, or just don't like Seinfeld reruns like I do. :gomer: The strange part about the NBC debacle is that O'Brien should attract a younger demo, which advertisers covet.

What I don't understand is, why NBC kept Conan on the air during all this? I expected him to be escorted off the premises after his letter to the people of Earth. Most companies don't let employees wander the halls after they've been fired.

I've not seen any figures regarding the replays on Hulu and the NBC site. I know very few people who actually watch any of these shows at 11:30, but I know quite a few who watch at least a segment or two of Conan and/or Dave every day on Hulu.

I've got 80m answers to that question. NBC needs better lawyers for sure.

Richard addressed the inspired leadership behind these events earlier in the thread with a quote from Letterman....:D

The one thing I haven't heard much about during this entire dustup seems like most obvious; if Conan was solid in the ratings it would have been Leno taking a buyout and walking away.
