A beautiful shot of a native American tepee against a starlite night sky.

But this starlite sky is in Afghanistan, and inside this tepee are 21 photos of 21 soldiers killed during the first months of a year-long tour of duty. These soldiers all served in the 1-17th Infantry Battalion, 5th Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division. The symbol of the 2nd Infantry Division is and Indian head.

I try to never forget that there are thousands of Americans who have sacrificed so that I can sit here in comfort and worry a little less about the evil in this world that would do us harm. I've always been humbled to think about the courage and commitment of our service people through the centuries but I think so even more so today than ever. These are men and women who could be at home enjoying all the comforts of our increasingly narcissistic society and yet they're living in tents and shacks, putting their lives at risk.

I hope that we can continue to be worth it.

I hope that we can continue to be worth it.

As a friend of mine likes to say: I love my country, I just don't like it very much these days. :(

As always, I am in awe on a daily basis of the sacrifices the men & women in the armed services make, as well as the men & women in public safety positions.

My prayers for a safe return to their families.

God Bless them all.

I saw an official PA license plate for a designated "Gold Star Family" on the road last week. :(

Politics aside, they are our family members serving and they need our continued support.
