Australian Daniel Ricciardo, the British F-3 champ, was 1.3 sec. ahead of the field at Jerez driving the Team Red Bull car in the last F-1 "test" of the year. DiResta 2nd, Paffett and Conway 3rd and 4th. On to '010!

F1 needs more young hotshots. I hope this guy hasn't been lobotomized like Hamilton and some of the other F1 robot pilots....

The Western Australia Formula Ford series doesn't race in Australia?
Who would have guessed?

Well you may be right, I usually keep track of the various state formula ford series and I don't remember his name. His website lists his racing experience as:

2006: Winner of Formula BMW Asia Pacific Scholarship.
2006: Competed in Formula BMW Asia Series (12 podiums out of 19 races including 2 wins and 1 Pole)
2006 Formula BMW Asia: 3rd in overall Championship
2006 Formula BMW World Final: 5th place
2007 Formula Renault 2.0 Italian Championship: 6th place
2007 Selected for Red Bull Junior Team 2008
2008 – Formula Renault 2.0 WEC Championship winner
2008 – Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup Runner-up

There is no mention of Formula Ford there at all...

From his website.

Memorable moments: Finally winning my first go karting state title in Western Australia. It came in my last year of karts but it was worth the wait. Becoming the CIK Australian Karting Champion (2005).

He had just turned 16 when he ran the Formula Ford races. Does FF have a minimum age? He skipped the three weekends before he turned 16, he entered the three weekends after he turned 16. Coincidence?

I can't remember the exact CAMS licensing conditions but I think to drive under 16 you have to get special dispensation. I was talking to Mitch Evans (2009 Formula Ford runner up and F3 Superprix winner) about it last week but it was about midnight and I was a tad tired so I don't remember the whole conversation. I do know that he had to fight MSNZ to get them to issue him a license to drive Formula Toyota because he is less than 16. As well as that NSW Government has set an age limit of 16-which only applies at races in NSW.
