Mercedes announces Mercedes Grand Prix

Mercedes will return to having its own team in Formula 1 next year, having acquired control of Brawn Grand Prix. Mercedes-Benz will enter the Formula 1 World Championship with its own team, beginning with the 2010 season, and Daimler AG and McLaren Group will change their form of cooperation with immediate effect. Daimler AG and Aabar Investments PJSC will take over 75.1 per cent of the Brawn GP team, with Daimler taking 45.1 per cent and Aabar 30 per cent. The rest of the 24.9 per cent will remain with the current stakeholders. With 9.1 per cent, Aabar is the biggest single shareholder of Daimler AG.

The partnership between McLaren Mercedes has been in place since 1995 and ended its 15th joint Formula 1 season in 2009. The change to the form of cooperation is taking place by mutual agreement. Mercedes-Benz and McLaren will continue to co-operate with each other and the supply of engines could continue until 2015.

Damn, it's hard finding vintage photos online, but I don't see this orange as the same as above...

A relatively rubbish Mclaren M4A photo I took last year

Now THAT is closer to the true color, but the Can Am cars above may have been exactly the same shade but something is often lost in printing or even in the actual taking of the picture. Lots of variables.

Can any of our Kiwi friends call the McLaren Trust folks and get the OFFICIAL color code for McLorange? I tried emailing them a long time ago but never got a response.

It'll probably be some sponsor livery but it certainly would be nice to have the orange back.

Color photography sucked back then. Ansel Adams wouldn't touch it because he felt it was wildly inaccurate.

A lot better now, but there are endless discussions on the web between professional and top level amateur photographers about which post-processor is better than which to convert a RAW format file into something that looks like it's supposed to.

That's a hell of an interesting thread. We're dealing with an unknown color due to lack of documentation, so today not only do we not know what the color actually was, we don't even know if we can duplicate it with the chemicals we have because the old chemicals and processes are no longer available.

I wonder whatever happened to Teddy Mayer...?

If the guy with the original paint got it laser checked it would be easy to know exactly how to mix it.

back on topic.

This whole deal seems to be strange, Ross and Fry make millions out of a team they never put dime of their own money into. The season was paid by Honda, then they flog it to Merdeces after one year, there's something very dodgy about that.

Sounds like Honda were too proud to 'give' directly to Mercedes, so they set up this arrangement so everyone could save face.

Now why would you say this? I think the fact that Brawn was able to select MB as their engine choice about one week in advance of the first GP and still kick butt is highly commendable.

I'm a bit slow on the uptake .

Ross knows how to get 'er done. Benetton, ferrari, Brawn, possibly Mercedes. wonder what kind of man-love Norbert haug had for him all those years with Ferrari v mcLaren ;)

Don't forget Jaguar XJR-14 that won the world championship in 1991 as well. Aside from being one of the most beautiful sports cars ever run. No bad for a guy that started as a milling machine operator.

Benz had the engines in the car, it was clear Brawn still had his touch and it was also clear they lacked the finances going forward to remain a first class outfit. For Haug it was like going fishing and having the biggest fish in the lake jump into his boat before he could rig his fishing rod.

I'd be willing to bet that the only love Haug's got in him is for a constructor title that says Benz on it.
