Says the Folha de Sao Paulo newspaper.

Fox Sports story (http://www.foxsports.com.au/story/0,8659,26202788-5018892,00.html)

Brazilian Formula One driver Rubens Barrichello has signed for Williams and will leave current stable Brawn GP at the end of the season, Folha de Sao Paulo newspaper has reported.

Barrichello, currently on a reputed $A2.2 million annual salary, "has already signed a contract with Williams for the 2010 season with a mutual option to extend for another year", the paper said.

Williams will pay him "some four times more" plus win bonuses, the report added.

$2.2 million a year? :\

Huh, less than Haas shelled out for Mario about 20 years ago. Tough economy. (PS-notice how popular the F-1 driver news is around here? About 2 replies to 4 reports!)

Wonder if Brawn made him an offer? What's more important: race wins or money?

Let's see... Hulkenburg and Rubens, a Williams-Cosworth package... I'm putting this mega-team as a solid 6th in the Constructor's championship.

For a team that was racey for a long time Williams has misplaced the magic. Signing Woobens doesn't seem likely to get it back..

I don't know...Rubens brings a wealth of experience and he has been exceptionally racy this year, I'm sure Jenson is still having trouble sleeping at night thinking about his year slipping away. So Rubens helps out Williams for a year, makes a cool 2+ mill and retires. Smooth.

I think RB benefited more this year from being a Brawn driver than the reverse. On the other hand, I always felt that RB was better than his treatment at Maranello deserved. Nevertheless, I think he's been a classy guy (unlike some pointy-chinned, heavy-helmeted bastids) and I'd like him to get a ride in a decent team for decent coin in his last year. Somehow I don't see either Williams or $2 mil as qualifying for either...

No, Williams was offering, supposedly, 4X that! A cool 8+mil. for 2 yrs. THEN easing into retirement is even better!:)

I still can't believe that he's making $2.2 million this year.

he and button both took serious pay cuts with the braun purchase of honda. i recall button stirring up trouble a little while back wanting his salary increased due to brauns success.
