Not sure why this took me a bit by surprise. Makes perfect sense if they are looking to expand their presence. Brawn's ability to take the sorry Honda operation and transform it in a single year into a title contender while retaining the existing drivers seems to have gotten some notice. Sponsorship secured as well.

A big stake. (http://www.jamesallenonf1.com/2009/11/brawn-name-could-disappear-and-cars-run-as-silver-arrows-next-season/)

This has been going on for a while.

I'm intrigued whether the McLaren rumour will come true. I did hear something about Ron Dennis buying the team outright again and sourcing his own engine supply-maybe the defunct BMW line. I hope that happens and is succesful, it would make Bruce McLaren proud.

but there still isn't any money for a decent driver retainer.

I didn't know about the Mclaren road car engine being sourced from Mahle. Mahle is a major supplier in European motorsports as well as to the production car manufacturers as well. With that tie-in I wouldn't be surprised if Ron Dennis was aiming at sourcing an F1 engine program from Mahle.

[It's nice to have some silly season topics that don't involve where the Princess Permapout will park her skinny butt.]

Won't stay that way if she gets in a cab. (straight face)

Jenson's butt is pretty skinny too, and he just got the McLaren factory tour. Bet he doesn't want as much as Kimi either. Then all McLaren would need is a British engine! :)

Geebus, could we really see Cosworth Technology (Mahle badged as McLaren) vs Cosworth Engineering (Kalkoven/Forsythe) doing battle in F1...?

So, the Cosworth Technology division of Mahle is said to have designed the McLaren engine.

From Edmunds McLaren MP4-12C engine designed by Cosworth Technology (http://www.insideline.com/mclaren/mp4-12c/mclaren-mp4-12c-supercar-breaks-cover.html)

The V8 is not derived from a Mercedes power plant. McLaren calls its M838T engine "unique for this car." It was reportedly developed by Cosworth, a company that is owned by piston-maker Mahle

From Automobile.com Audi sells Cosworth engine group to Mahle (http://www.automobile.com/audi-sells-cosworth-engine-group-to-mahle.html)

If you follow the worlds premier motorsport series, Formula One, you may remember reading about Ford putting Cosworth up for sale when it also put its F1 interests, namely Jaguar Racing, on the block. Confused? Well, this is also true. Volkswagen chose not to purchase the Formula One portion of Cosworth from Vickers, which also builds racing engines for other series such as North Americas Champ Car, and therefore it was sold to Ford Motor Co.

Ford sold Cosworth Formula One to Kevin Kalkhoven and Gerald Forsythe last month, owners of the PKV and Forsythe racing teams plus co-owners of Champ Car.

Tale Of Two Cosworths, coming to a track not likely near you...
