View Full Version : Are you a boy or a girl? Um...

I know it's really difficult to tell the sex of parrots but humans...even I am pretty good at that. ;)

I had no idea that it is actually a "extremely complex, difficult" test according to IAAF spokesman Nick Davies who said the test to determine the gender of a contestant could take weeks.

Is this common in this sport?

I swear I recall years ago where there was some kind of a question about some Olympic athlete and they ended up doing a genetic test for X and Y chromosomes, which of course takes a while. Also this memory is a little fuzzy, and perhaps I am conflating a number of stories into one story, but seem to recall some British Royal had made the Olympic team for something or other (or perhaps was trying out), I want to say it was horsemanship (or whatever they call it) and they exempted her from the test. Since Goggle isn't giving me any relevant results to a search that may indicate that I am conflating several stories.

It isn't common anywhere but there are cases where things just didn't quite work right while going down the old developmental pathways. A gene doesn't get expressed when it should and you can be a genetic male that looks for all the world like a female. It can get downright confusing.

Makes sense, I always wondered if Prince Charles was a guy.

Thanks. I knew that was something I recalled from way back (I was in high school in 76) and after 1/2 dozen different Goggle searches I gave up on the assumption that it was so long ago and maybe such an obscure incident that I simply would not find it on the web.

Never quite understood why it was necessary in the only Olympic sport without gender differentiation...

Has Danica been tested? :gomer:

Especially since it's not a sport, just a rent a ride for rich ****ers.

Now that I think of it, I wonder why it is that some sports seem never to have considered women's divisions (like racing). In all seriousness, Danica might be capable of being the women's driving champion. It seems that would diminish her accomplishments [snicker] in a male sport, so why is it that other female sports are not seen to be insulting to females? And if everyone acknowledges an absolute difference in performance potential between genders in almost every other sport, why is that when I have generously mentioned to Danica fans that she is really good "for a woman," I get the doghouse stare?

By the way, someone on another forum pointed out that there is a separate division for women's chess. What am I supposed to think about that?

Don't know how it works in the USA, but in the UK and Australia the teams are selected from the winners of the national equestrian championships. Hence the Australian team aren't rich and Princess Anne was an olympian

Plenty of reason to doubt that "chick" is one. From the times of "her" performances to the "guy" knees...

It helps if you say it with a German accent and add a question mark at the end. :D
