So we gonna have the official Offcamber.net team? I've got a helmet and I can sew two racing suits together for myself.... ;)

I'm thinking 1st-gen Taurus SHO, T-Bird turbo coupe, or maybe a Datsun 510.
I've got tools and a crippling tendency to overengineer...

I'm going to have to try to free-up my schedule for Portland!

I always thought it would be cool to pull a Bolus and Snopes and bring the thing in on the last lap for a quick wash and wax... :tony:

Mix this with the LeMons series and there could be JunkerRoC showdown!

I wish the one in Brainerd was two weeks later - I'd be there for vacation.

Well I was looking at my driver suit a week or so ago, but there are no events at Nelson Ledges or Beaver Creek. Putman or Gingerman (I love that track) are closest.

If anyone wants to do something for Willow Springs let me know...

I'm down for that one!

Good idea if you can find one. I ran one in the Silver State Class a couple times. Reliable as a hammer. Only thing I found that needed beefing up for hard use were the motor mounts of all things.

I just sold the one the wife's been driving the last 10 years. It would have been perfect, but I blew the price cap to pieces. I loved that engine.

Some Japanese car from the 70's would do the trick. If you can find a 76 Honda CVCC, it would do the tick. Handles quite well and was reliable like nothing else. I drove one fr years and would add oil when the dip stick was bone dry. There is no way that car will brake down! I'm sure we can get one for $500.

Dang and I spent the whole day looking at the classifieds for a Pinto.....

We need an RX3 or RX4.
Maybe this one. (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Mazda-rx4-rx-4-rotary-13b-rx3-rx2-rx7-rx-3-rx-2-rx-7_W0QQitemZ140338845816QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Cars_ Trucks?hash=item20acd8d878&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245)

Negative. (http://www.chumpcar.com/faq.php#4)

Not at all. Our management team was engaged with LeMons at its founding, including promoting and putting on the first LeMons events. And we continue to support LeMons in every possible way, including participating in their races!

Sounds like what the IRL and CART should have been.

Way over budget!

You could probably sell off close to $1k in parts. Plus, I can guarantee that if you showed to to either Chumpcar or LeMons with an early 70s rotary-powered anything (though preferably a non-Mazda), they'd overlook some spending overages.

Yeah, it was around $400 when I posted it.
Frankly, 1st gen RX7s are cheaper and more plentiful than RX2/3/4s anymore, probably since nearly all of the latter are already track cars.

I know a guy with a triple-rotor sitting on the floor of his garage- think we could get them to overlook that? :tony:

Throw it in something like a Mark IV Spitfire and you'll be heralded as a hero!

Just a question on the 500 buck rule.... is it just that you have to prove to the series officials that it is that cheap?

Or is it one of those series where if you bring something good, anyone can come up to you and say I want to buy your car and you -have- to sell it for 500. - which stops people from putting too much into it.

I don't know how Chumpcar's going to work, but LeMons does a BS Inspection upon arrival. If they suspect you're over budget they demand you provide paperwork. If you can't, they assign penalties. Of course, booze, boobs & cash bribes are encouraged and can offset said penalties because, y'know, the sideshow is as important as the race.

LeMons also has an organizer claim rule, but I don't believe it's been acted upon yet. The real deterrent is The People's Curse, a organizer/competitor vote whose winner usually gets to watch as their car gets mangled in some sadistic way.
