How ridiculous are these latest emission regulations when they force Aston Martin to rebadge a Toyota iQ! I thought it was a joke initially...I was wrong!

Here you have it, the Aston Martin Cygnet. :yuck::cry::shakehead

That would be a good joke in the next Bond film.

...ah, 007 there have been some budget cutbacks at MI6...

I was reading about the iq when I bought my Yaris a few months ago. The thing is 36 inchs shorter then my Yaris.

They're only offering it to people who already own a DB9, DBS or Vanquish, so it's really not that big of a deal.

So I can only get two?

...and while he's at it, maybe he can explain what exactly it has to do with "these latest emission regulations", and describe precisely what nefarious and shadowy international mechanism is, ahem, forcing Aston to badge Toyota microboxes?

We need a paranoia/tinfoil hat smiley.

Personally, I find their Lagonda Concept infinitely more offensive than the micromachine.

Got that straight.

Maybe they'll cram heaping mounds of power into the Cygnet, sorta like a production version of one of those V8 Hayabusa Isettas.
:D

Or perhaps a foot-in-mouth smiley. :D

The reasoning behind the partnership is to enable Aston Martin to comply with tough new fuel economy and emissions regulations coming into effect in Europe by 2012. The biggest hurdle for automakers will be to meet a target for fleet average CO2 emissions from new vehicles of 120g/km by 2012. Low volume automakers such as Aston Martin, Ferrari and Lamborghini, which only sell powerful vehicles with high CO2 emissions will be hit hardest. Unlike Aston Martin, however, rivals like Ferrari and Lamborghini can group their CO2 emissions levels with their respective parent companies, in this case the Fiat and Volkswagen groups.

So no, it's not being built because there's a pent up market looking to pay Aston Martin prices for Toyota micro-cars. It's being built to satisfy emissions regulations - basically the equivalent of our CAFE regulation but measured at the tailpipe instead of the fuel filler. And they're just as misguided. People will continue to burn every ounce of hydrocarbons that they can afford to for as long as it's the most economical energy source.

So, the EU would be the shadowy, nefarious international mechanism.
Works for me.

This one seems a bit large- what do you think?
