Vision Racing, which re-evaluated its program following the Indianapolis 500, will suspend operation of the No. 21 entry for the season. Carpenter drives the No. 20 Menards/Johns Manville/Lilly car and the team competes in Firestone Indy Lights with driver James Davison.

"Following the Texas race, it became clear that this could be a reasonable solution to a number of challenges and it needed consideration," George said. "A.J. Foyt and I spoke candidly about what Ryan had to offer. We all feel Ryan will be able to contribute to their program and provide continuity for the rest of the season while they await Vitor's return."

Ryan Hunter-Reay is jumping from the frying pan into the fire. An Indy Racing League press release today said in a “win-win situation for all involved,” Hunter-Reay is departing Tony George’s Vision Racing team to pilot A.J. Foyt’s car. The deal was finalized last night with a blessing from George, his cash-strapped team with one fewer car to finance.

The deal, however, looks like a lose-lose for Hunter-Reay. I’m sure Izod officials are pleased since Hunter-Reay, the clothing and apparel company’s spokesman, will at least be on the track. But for the man known to fans as RHR, it must seem a long way from where he was last year, piloting a Rahal Letterman car that was competitive enough to find its way to victory lane once.

The comments following the blog entry should be fun.

So FTG cuts bait with a driver for a major sponsor, sends him to his godfather's team ( which cut PT because they couldn't provide a competitive/safe ride) so his d-bag stepson can drive for $5 an hour?

Puuuuurrrfect!

Success is just around the corner. All they've got to do is finish driving off one of the few major sponsors to emerge in recent years...:tony:
