This actually made me laugh out loud (http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20090522/lf_nm_life/us_afghanistan_gates_pink)

Kind of reminds me of a recurring dream I had as a kid where I show up at school only to realize I was in my PJs and forgot to change into my school clothes, and thereafter never could live it down.

I can't think of anything worse than that dream.

Except maybe, uh, doing that?

Thanks for bringing that up, *******. :flame:

"Any soldier who goes into battle against the Taliban in pink boxers and flip-flops has a special kind of courage. I can only wonder about the impact on the Taliban. Just imagine seeing that - a guy in pink boxers and flip-flops has you in his crosshairs."

Here's wishing a safe and happy Independence Day to all those who are serving their country so bravely.

ncr, glad you brought this one back up since I had thought of doing it this week for the following reason.

NBC nightly news in the last week has run a few segments with their correspondent Richard Engles (sp?) who is with one particular unit in Afghanistan and one of the segments last week mentioned that the guy in the pink underwear is in that unit. He talked to him and it was interesting. I would guess it is on their website.

And I second nrc's thought on the 4th.

Not as stylish but still a good example of 'badass'.

article from The Sun:
A HERO [British] Chinook pilot was shot between the eyes by a Taliban bullet - but flew on and saved all 20 aboard.

Flight Lieutenant Ian Fortune, 28, had flown in to pick up casualties as a firefight raged between American and Afghan forces and heavily-armed rebels near Garmsir in Helmand Province.

Up armoring helicopter cockpits might be worth a look.
