Cards'pitcher passes gas-throws 137 mph fastball,
says he'll try it more often

In related story-28 people injured in outfeild stands from shockwave.

Not a caption just an observation.

If the batter sends one back up the middle this pitcher is in no position to defend himself.

I was thinking the same thing, wheel.

How the hell does he get ready for a come-back?

All that guy needs is a brass pole and a thong and he's in business.

And Helio will be in the front row stuffing fivers in his thong.

Actually, the pitcher is in perfect position. He has just released the ball. The complete leg extension shows that he used his hips (push with back, pull with the front). Also, notice that his back is flat and shoulders square to the plate. His right leg will land and place him in a perfect fielding position. Since he is a Cardinal pitcher (Simontacchi), he will then need to duck as Patterson, Choi, or Sosa blast one right back up the middle. :p

Former Cardinal great Bob Gibson used to throw so hard he'd almost fall over on his follow through.

Was Mitch Williams the one they nicknamed Wild Thang, like in the movie?

If so, he made a brief stop at the Astros before we drafted Billy Wagner. Wagner was slinging some heat the other night when I watched that was clocked at 102 mph.

Yes, That is the same Mitch Williams. I think he got the nickname when he was with the Cubs.

His first appearence, he came in in the ninth with a one run lead. He proceeded to walk the bases full and then strike out the side. Talk about a Heart attack waiting to happen. :p

Players and coaches were startled during the 7th inning stretch when Jason Simontacchi suddenly decided to entertain the crowd with a series of partially learned ballet movements from a class he had taken last winter...
