Danica theft a hoax

A surveillance camera video circulating the Internet is real, but the alleged theft of a Danica Patrick race car is a hoax, a team member said today.

Andretti Green Racing spokesmen still haven't confirmed the story either way except for a carefully crafted response by team co-owner Kim Green that says the "leaked" video has become a distraction.

The team will unveil its Indianapolis 500 paint scheme on Friday at 10 a.m. near the Indianapolis airport. Patrick will be present.

The team member said some employees still believe the No. 7 Indy car was removed from the team's Indianapolis shop by three people dressed in dark clothing in the early hours of April 28. The time on the 90-second video is 3:28 a.m.

The men apparently made it seem as if it was a break-in, with locks damaged, etc.

cheesy "theft" video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cYyKpucUS-c)

Note that only two guys leave the cab to open the trailer and go into the garage and three guys roll the crapwagon up the ramps. And AGR left the door open for them as well. :shakehead

The idea that anyone would want a crapwagon is beyond belief. :shakehead

It would be like stealing Helio's identity. Not worth the hassle.

It's Boost Mobile sponsorship.

So Motorola sees more value in "partnering" with a company that sells their hardware rather than the Motorola name itself?

Uh...

Uh...

Or it could be a situation where Motorola said if Boost wants to continue the deal they have to supply them phones, Boost needs to pick up some of their sponsorship costs.

As it is I think I recall the Motorola sponsorship is more a B2B thing that supplies the team with radios and electronics in exchange for a sidepod.

I think that it's more of a case where Moto can't pay for it anymore, and they found Boost to help prevent breach of contract. But it's just a guess.

And there's always B2B shenanigans and ongoings.

Also, the original sponsorship is supposedly straight up legit, but I've never been to a race to see their presence (do they have hospitality?). And mind-boggling. Why they decided to $pend CART money on the leegue, I'll never know. Even the Honda B2B makes no sense, since the Automotive group has been long sold off.

But it ain't radios.

Dunno about at the track itself, but I've never seen them do any off-track promotion during the IRL weekend here- 'course that's true of everyone except the occasional Penske/Philip Morris promo. Compare that to the fact that I've seen at least 6 Penske/Verizon Wireless/LG-branded Smarts running around town with Nationwide series swag just today.
