Atlantic team withdraws

Series standout Mathiasen Motorsports has announced today that it is withdrawing from the 2009 Cooper Tires presents the Atlantic Championship by Mazda.

Last season Mathiasen Motorsports [driver Jonathan Bomarito] lead the most laps, double its nearest competition, won the most races and earned the most poles on their way to a hard fought runner-up position in the 2008 Atlantic championship fight.

New Atlantic team joins series:


Primetime Race Group has decided to spread its diversity into the Atlantic Championship ... with the addition of a two-car effort aimed at the $1 million series championship.

American Le Mans Series Team owner Joel Feinberg and team manager Brent O’Neill, in a joint venture with entrepreneur Jamie Rand, have acquired the 2008 championship-winning No. 8 car and the No. 88 car from Brooks Associates Racing. The team intends to campaign both cars for a repeat performance in the 2009 championship.

Okay, so it's an arrive-and-drive program run by a GT2 ALMS team with cars from a defunct team.

That's great news! I'm glad to see there are new teams joining in the series when we aren't even sure if the series will be around much longer. Should be a little more incentive for Ben Johnston to keep his wallet open and try to sustain the series.
