Has anyone noticed or is it my computer that the Atlantic web site is down? Wonder what is up?

Of course the last time I checked I saw maybe 17 cars tops with about 6 drivers confirmed, only 12 races, 1st one canceled and a couple of others doubled up. It's been a struggle.

Lets hope it is my computer. Seems to have be down the past several days. Tried to connect via the IMSA site and the same.

Well, the DNS is still resolving, so that's a good thing (unlike the former CCWS site, which is now defunct finally).

I would hope that they are just changing the site and their service provider to reflect the post Champ Car era they are entering... if so, it does take some time for a new dns to propagate through the web... its a lot more crowded out there than twenty years ago in the pre-browser universe. ;)

I hope...but Bomarito was one of the six I saw listed as confirmed and that was a very recent signing. So, they warm up the cars at Sebring and wait for kids to walk onto the grid with helmets full of money?

Six signed two weeks before the first race?

I'd say it's over. Atlantic was going to be the top AOW series worth watching this year and my last hope for the sport to recover. :flame:

Just yesterday, an Atlantics credentials section was added to the IMSA website:

http://www.imsaracing.net/imsaNS2.cfm?h=/2009/atlantics/header.htm&p=/2009/atlantics/indexnewatlantics.htm

Maybe the website is just in transition?? IMSA is pointing to www.atlantic-championship.com, which is currently displaying an invalid hostname error.

To hear the credentials section returned yesterday is good news. Such was posted on the IMSA site the past several months, then "Sent to Disneyland" and removed.
Lets hope for the best, but 6 signed drivers ...........

That driver "entry list" I found was at Wikipedia and now has 8 with 10 TBAs. The 12 race schedule lists 4 with "names" ($ponsors) and 8 TBDs. Looks rough.:(...heck only 28 for the 12 hr! 3 P2s and 2 GT1s:shakehead

We have heard that the series will also be inviting five SCCA drivers (from Mirl Swan's camp) to join in on the fun to run as a C2 category.

That sounds encouraging.

It might be interesting to have some the fast guys from the SCCA in the field. If they can get five regular C2 cars and some part time drivers from the various regions where races are held the field will look okay. Too bad the old Swift 014a with the Toyota (4A-GE) only has around 240 HP -- they should let these guys run the 1800cc long stroke block or the 5v head. :)

Anyway, the ALMS fans under stand class differences --- after all, they put up with P1 and P2. ;)

That they've had to go back to a C2 class so soon doesn't strike me as particularly encouraging though. And the way that quote reads, it doesn't sound like like it'll be a particularly large C2 class either.

Be fair. Frankie hasn't embarrassed himself. He's pretty much stayed in the top half/third IIRC.

Muniz seems to be serious and pretty smart about what he's doing in Atlantic. After all, he could have bought himself an IRL ride already...

I also watched him in the paddock at NJMSP last year with his extended Jersey family who came to watch him race and it was clear he simply loved what he was doing and taking it very seriously.

If I had entered adulthood with a bunch of child actor money I'd be doing exactly the same thing.

Did I mention his hot girlfriend?

No, just funnin'. I'm in TOTAL support, but the run up the time sheet may have as much to do with a more diluted field. We'll see. I'm still not convinced he'll be better than Simona, for example. Hope the season goes well for ALL concerned.

I've seen FF2000 races with two classes. They also did the half lap apart start thing so everybody could have a clean race for a while. Either way for me, two class races just add another angle to make things interesting.

Ladder to nowhere.
With a million dollars for the champion, $500k for second, and $50,000 for each victory the drivers can buy their own ladder.

Also Mazda's in for two more years til 2011:
http://auto-racing.speedtv.com/article/atlantic-mazda-renews-partnership-with-atlantic-championship/

Continuing a relationship that began in 2006, officials from the Cooper Tires Presents The Atlantic Championship Powered by Mazda and Mazda North American Operations today announced that Mazda has renewed its contract with the series for three more years as official sponsor and engine partner. The new agreement covers the 2009 through 2011 racing seasons.

Atlantic's should start thinking of it's self as being more than just a "ladder" to somewhere else and more of an end game.

They've been the ladder to sportscars for quite some time now, even when CART/CC was still around.

The trouble with being a step on a ladder is that people can easily skip a step, maybe your step.

Auberlen, Hand, Sellers, Cosmo, Pagenaud, Valiante, Gidley.

They're much better off being under the IMSA umbrella than the IRL where almost no opportunities arise year in year out.
