Looks like more than anyone else, Newey has approached the new regulations with a clean sheet of paper! Most notable features, super low over-the-top exhaust, a nose and suspension mount design we've never seen before, and huge rear wing endplates that run nearly to the ground.

Not bad.

Best looking of the bunch, I think. Now we'll see what the times are like...

Did I not notice it all of last year, or is the opening on the front wheel cover a new concept? Sorry, this hasn't been my favorite era, and my eye for detail hasn't been as keen.

I haven't been paying attention, are grooved tires gone?

Yes, Max thought of that :gomer:

Does that end plate seem larger than the others or is it just that they made use of the whole thing with signage?

WTF is that teardrop-shaped projection on the underside between the front wheels in the first photo?

Push G5 on the steering wheel and it sends the car flying over Turn 1 mishaps.

It's probably a camera.

Some sort of test sensor probably.

It's not just for signage, it runs all the way down to the diffuser.

"Double wing" at the back reminds me of the Red Baron.

Turns out there is nothing in the language of the technical regs that specifically bans particle beam weapons. :gomer: The development team got all jacked up on too many Red Bulls and didn't sleep for a month. They were looking at what do to with the power generated by the KERS and, well, it all seemed reasonable at the time....

I dunno. Yeah, I like the swoopyness of it, but it still just looks too awkward for me. Beauty is in the eye and all that. Guess I'm still living in '97, cherishing my Reynards and Penske's.

That Dingle ball is some sort of sensor. Atlas thread links to a website on it. Accelormeter or some such I would presume...

Atlas thread?

Looks like a good spot for a ride height sensor.

Yeah, looks like a laser ride height sensor to me. I'll bet it isn't there for the races.

Okay, I know Adrian's a frikkin' genius and all, but I don't get the mirror mounts, either. Why put the mirrors on separate stalks (with the resulting drag) when he could have just mounted them to the vertical strakes not six inches outboard of them?

Must be a Max rule...

My guess is, so the mirrors don't mess up the airflow over the smaller wing.

There is a thread at the Atlas F1 forums about the RB2009 car. Its been merged with another thread so its about a Brazillion pages now, but somewhere in there is a link to (I believe) the manufacturer of said Dingle Ball. Good luck wading through 15+ pages

C'mon guys. We all recognize that thing. It's a drop tank for extra fuel. Foyt suggested one years ago!:)
