Was wondering when the Fist bump came about?
Couldn't believe - someone has already asked the Question...

My kids and I fist-bump when we're making fun of their mother.

I can't recall the last time I gave anyone a high five.

mr anait agrees with SurfaceUnits. :D

teen'anait and I do a very WASP-y high five, keenly aware of our lack of style. Or precision.

My circle of family and friends perform an intricate series of highly choreographed dance moves that is a cross between Russian ballet and early 80's break dancing, done by tragically white people with bad overbites.

Sometimes we go with the barely discernable nod.

The booby squish is always good too.

I thought the fist bump was from boxing. You can't shake hands with gloves on, so you bump fists together after the ref's gives you his instructions. :\

Well yeah, but for example for longer than I can remember (maybe ten years) the Yankees bench will, after a victory, take the field in a line and fist bump the players coming off the field.

But I get you. In all my years playing football I always shook the hand of my opponent at the end of the game, but I wouldn't even look at him if he got hurt during the game. As for teammates, I would respond to a high five if one was offered, but I never felt the need.

I know. I'm a curmudgeon. But I did once tackle my own quarterback when he threw a sweet game winning touchdown touch pass. :gomer:

Isn't that more fist on fist than a fist bump?

The fist bump is only used when you are trying to keep it real.

The fist bump could be interpreted as "going back to our primate roots".
Take the chimpanzee. When the chimp walks, what do you see? knuckle dragging of course. The handshake is a product of human civilization.

A barely discernible high fist bump followed by a kiss, kiss of both cheeks (including a sniff, sniff to collect chemical information) should be the 21st century standard for greeting.

Considering some of the over-enthusiastic high-fives I've gotten at football games I shudder to think what would happen if those folks adopted the fist bump.
