Gimme a grid fulla these (or clones) with engines from diverse sources.

We're done.

I'm serious. Leave the radiator mounting (front, side, whatever) free and turn 'em loose. Let the sky rain crate motors from whoever chooses to homologate in the series in exchange for sponsorship. Let tire companies do the same.

Beautiful car, but it's a coffin with wheels and will never fly these days in real competition. Only suitable for chubby rich guys to lap with.

Same reaction I had to somebody's idea of running a field full of V-8 Ariel Atoms at Indy.

Maybe we've all turned into a bunch of wimps. Forty years ago, we considered it perfectly normal.

I WOULD love to see modern, carbon fiber cars with no wings at the top level of open wheel. The late '60's F1 cars were the best looking open wheelers ever.

But do the mirrors work?

And can we make street legal?

the six gallon fuel cell might be a problem, admittedly, but I'd STILL pay to watch them over the current alternative any day.

The Formula Fords are my favorite open wheelers, but they don't have near the power of a late '60's F1.

A current non-winged 1600cc Duratech engined FF would kick the crap out of a full field of the 1.5L F1 cars from '61--'65. Unless, of course, Jimmy Clark came back to us with a Lotus 25. ;)

That's a nice knock off of the last of the tube framed F1 cars like Cooper circa 1966 or the Lola from the previous formula and some early FA/F5000 cars. A 5.3L Chevy seems like overkill and inappropriate, though, since it is a truck engine. Leave it to NASCAR... A mildly race tuned race version of any of the current 4.0L DOHC V8s on the market now would be just fine. Just spec a fairly hard, treaded tire and we're set to go.

Just got to move the steering wheel to the middle:

Their hearts are in the right place, but I think I'd rather just attend a vintage event and see the real thing.:\

Like I said, diverse engines and homologated tires.
