Paul Tracy inched a step closer to a triumphant return to IndyCar racing yesterday.

The 2003 Champ Car World Series champion is in serious talks with KV Racing Technology about taking over their Indy Racing League car from Will Power who yesterday signed a deal to move to the 14-time Indy 500 winning Penske Racing team for 2009.

A "triumphant" return to something that you think sucks? Whatever. Perception. Reality. Blah blah blah.

Dear Paul,

Don't get gratered.

No, but they already have signed Mario Moraes and his family can buy Dallaras with pocket change.

You can't return to something you never raced in. Sorry A-holes but you may have BOUGHT the history but you are NOT the history.

It was an immediate response.
I just about sprayed the monitor with coffee when I read that sentence.

I think that's pretty much what we all thought. It was a good morning laugh.

Funny, but sad at the same time. That kind of rewriting/miswriting of history will eventually obliterate truth.

Heard on local radio station last night that PT is in for Indy, Edmonton and Toronto with Vasser team. Additional races if sponsorship can be found. Press conference scheduled for this weekend at Long Beach.

Before last season, I thought PT would be able to get me to watch. I still didn't watch, but I will admit my interest did go up enough that I was actively looking at results. My hatred runs deep I suppose. All the original IRL teams/drivers + traitor teams/drivers far outnumber the "transition" team/drivers. The point in time to merge and keep me apparently passed a couple seasons after Penske/TCGR/AGR jumped ship.

It's pretty common for drivers to do Indy one-offs, so PT at Indy doesn't surprise me.
However, IMO, if PT wants to race in the series, ideally it should be in a full time ride.
Trotting him out for Edmondton and Totonto makes him the Canadian version of Jorge Goeters.
He deserves better, but if this is what he wants, more power to him.

My interest in the IRL went up enough that I did follow the season, but that was mainly due to the CC drivers that "transitioned" over to the IRL.

I've gotten pretty apathetic towards the organizational structure in AOWR.
As a fan, I've been misled, patronized and/or lied to at one point or another by just about everyone running the sport.
It's made me realize that in the grand scheme of things, they're going to do whatever the hell they want.
I'll probably watch so long as there's something there of interest for me to watch.

shaggy - that pretty much sums it up for me... my apathy runs high for AOWR and I am going to LB this year hoping that the cars dont sound really s*****, that the hacks in the back can keep the FCYs down to a minimum, and the weather will be warm so there will be lots of "scenery" to look at.

Drivers are drivers, and they are looking for a paycheck. Ask any one of them off the record what kind of car they'd rather drive, and I'll wager its a champcar / lola / turbo, rather than the pig they have now.... the laps times should be laughable.... we'll just have to see how long this phase of AOWR lasts before the next clowns take it over....:shakehead

According to Max Papis' Twitter feed, PT with KV Racing and Geico sponsorship for the 500. Why is Max broadcasting this? He was at the presser dressed as the gecko.

It's out of focus, but this (http://twitpic.com/3gxku) is from the KV Racing Twitter feed.

And here's the transcript (http://www.indycar.com/news/?story_id=13609) of the press conference.

My favorite comment from the whole thing.

Q. Paul, are you going to get any extra time at Indy to get back up to speed? And also, any possibility of Toronto and Edmonton?

PAUL TRACY: We're not going to take the rookie orientation program. I don't think they let past winners do that there (laughter).

]"I was lying on the couch watching the disaster of a race at St. Pete (April 5) and I felt like I could get out there and clean everybody's clock, the way they were driving," [/B]the Toronto native said. "So, from that standpoint, I feel I've still got the skills to do this. You can only judge somebody on their last race, and the last race I came I got off the couch and finished in the top five.
