Dale Earnhardt Inc., Chip Ganassi Racing Ink Plan to Merge Mediocre Teams

Chip Ganassi has found a way to make his team not as pathetic as before and Dale Earnhardt Inc. has found a way to keep grasping at being a relevant Sprint Cup Series team.

That method? Join the two programs together to create strange bedfellows, cut costs and hope that a math equation of subpar plus subpar finally equals something good.

Yep, Dale Earnhardt Inc. and Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates will be teaming up to make a four-car team in 2009.

Rename the mergered teams Chip 'n Dale Racing. Might tap into a whole new race fan demographic.

Cute, but easy to get out of the head. The Ducktales theme is much harder to get rid of.

And I can't picture Theresa Earnhardt and Cheep working together.

good ol' Saint Dale must be rolling over in his grave at the thought of his widow doing this.... first, she lets his son go to another team, and then she squanders the family business and decides to merge with a guy named Floyd, who is one of them open wheel cissy wimps to begin with....
tough times indeed for the multi-millionaire team owners these days.
Cheep had to do it - heck after losing Dario due to lack of sponsors, and then losing texaco-havoline just a few weeks ago.... old Floyd might have actually had to have spent some of his own dough to fund the race teams:saywhat:

If you all will remember, this strategy worked for Chip once before when his team and Hayhoe merged prior to the start of the 1996 CART season.

Yes, but in 1996 TCGR had Mo Nunn and stumbled into the Reynard/Honda/Firestone package at just the right time. Such lightening doesn't strike twice, especially when all the CoTs on Goodyears are PoS no matter what decals are put on for the fascia.

Somewhere there is a joke about Cheep getting out of Dodge while the getting is good waiting to be made... :)
