I've come to the conclusion that I must fork out the dough for Adobe .pdf software. The things I get often need to be tweaked before sending to customers (I realize some may be locked but I'll take that chance) and I'd like to make my own.

I see Adobe 8.0 for about $268 on newegg. Probably because 9.0 just came out for $449 retail.

Any big honking deal about 9.0? Any reason NOT to go for 8.0? Remember, I've never had any so lack of features will probably not persuade me to shell out another $180 bucks or so.

9 incorporates a lot of multimedia components, as well as better redaction, document comparison and more accurate scanning & capturing features. They also added access to online file sharing/storage/collaboration. If you don't have a pressing need for any of that stuff, 8 will do you just fine.

Have you used this? I've tried a couple of free or free trial things and they convert type faces and columns but not into the SAME typefaces and columns. And when you go to edit, you get a complete hash.

If you need to "redact" documents (i.e. obscure portions with a black box) or compare different versions of a document, it's a lot easier. A lot of the new stuff was targeted to the legal field.
