Abu Dhabi to stage 2009 F1 finale (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/motorsport/formula_one/7473748.stm)

Hope the atmosphere is every bit as good as Bahrain. I wonder which petro-tycoon showed him the money

He didn't cut any races in Europe to do it so the result is a race in November that you wouldn't otherwise have. I'll take it.

They are building like mad in Dubai. Real estate is way up there, they're going to have the biggest/tallest everything there. They have so much money they do whatever they want. They invest big $$$ into U.S. companies that U.S. investors want no part of. They build colossal things that never had a place in the desert until recently. Just insane how much money they are rolling in there.

Yeah, their sovereign wealth funds just bought 40% of Citicorp after their little adventure in mortgage derivitives blew up in their face.

Why wouldn't Bernie and his bankers want to ring the cash register a 2nd time?

Bernie called Tony a few times but Tony was always taking a bath and couldn't talk. Tony likes his baths.

Well, at least it provides an opportunity for someone to send Nermal back home.

with no exposure in America, it's still as popular as that leeg posing as a racing series.

There is only one track in the US that can run F1 and that is Indy and it happens to suck and is run by FTG. FTG can't get it done so there ya go no race in the US. That sucks if you happen to live in Indiana but it does make sense.

Bollocks. It is another weekend of TV revenue for F1 in November. You really think that they are ever going to race in Europe in November? It is pure money in the bank and it gives everybody else something to watch in November besides their 847th football game.

I've noticed that trait in about 3/4 of the people that post here. Don't worry the Arabian peninsula races don't start until after 10PM. Your football games will have ended by then.

19 race weekends, 15 off weekends. I can see the 2 weeks off for overseas, but within Europe? They can dump 5-6 of those off weeks.

You're forgetting the midnight ESPN2 WAC special :D

On the November deal, F1 ran at least one race in that month from 1985 - 1995 Japan and downunder.
As far as location and the normal locals interest or ability to attend finacially or being allowed to be present at the track, Bernie doesn't care the family trust yearly endowment is due.

Okay so if you are upset about a race in Abu Dhabi what do you think about moving the French Grand Prix to Disneyland in 2010....

Do the MotoGP modifications change that at all?

Will the Disneyland race be around Dodger Stadium? :tony:

Expanding into growth markets, isn't that what you are supposed to do?

Those who are wedded to the past are in...well, Gomerville.

F1 went 10 years without racing in the US prior to the Indy stint and they did just fine.

Balls, while I don't much care if Bernie adds an extra race out in some desert in November killing Silverstone just so he can such a few million more out of F1is utter crap. He's well past the point of utter greed, he's raping the sport in ways that will cause permanent damage.

Bernie and Max are both long overdue for some justice...
