Miller does not own enough water rights to irrigate the course. There isn't a whole lot that they can do about it. It has also been an abnormally dry March & April out there. The track is located on the edge of an area called the West Desert. They weren't kidding when they named it that.

When we had the discussion following the announcement I think we agreed cheap land with few neighbors was the driving force for Miller's location decision. After my visit many years ago to the Tooele Army Depot I harbored no illusions.

The upside is that it's the most significant new road course built in decades and it takes road racing to a new market. I'm no Larry Miller fan, but he could have built a cookie cutter 1.5mi oval and told the tin top fans to come on down....

On a side note, Miller is building an industrial park across the street from the track.
