Two Indy Racing League team owners, speaking to Sun Media on the condition their names wouldn't be used, said yesterday there is a concerted effort being made behind the scenes to get Tracy back behind the wheel of an open-wheel racing car before this season ends.

"The folks from Edmonton (Rexall Indy) have certainly made it known that having P.T. in their race (July 26) is paramount to their success," one owner said.

Another owner pointed out that because of the speed of CART/CHAMP Car folding and their former teams joining the IRL, Tracy got lost in the shuffle.

"I can't think of anyone who doesn't think that Paul in our series would be an asset," he said.

Jimmy Vasser -- a co-owner of KV Racing -- said that Tracy's absence at today's Indy 500 is the one glaring negative in the newly united IRL. "Of course Paul Tracy should be here," he said. "And he certainly should be in Edmonton in July."
