I had heard a year ago that carbon fiber material was scarce and very expensive since it was being used in airline production. After seeing the picture in the first link, I can understand why. Has that changed? I'd think the supply would catch up with demand eventually and the increase in manufacturing would actually drive the cost down.

The National Weather Service station in Wilmington, Ohio reported that one of its weather balloons was carried all the way to West Virginia, 150 miles, by winds of 215MPH.

200 mph tailwind. Wow.

I saw a pretty consistent 175 MPH tail wind on a flight from Phoenix to New York last December.

We had airspeed of about 510 so we were making 685 over the ground.

The aircraft was the long version of the Boeing 737.

Of course on the flight out there a few days earlier we were barely making 400 MPH

This is all based on the seat back video thingie.
