Bourdais moves on to Q2. Vettel didn't make it out of Q1. Is Max Mosley at the track?

...when running a normal fuel load.

Actually comparing times in Q2 and Q3 makes me wonder just how light Alonso can be as he was right up there in Q3. Some of the "experts" has said that around Barca 10kg of fuel is about 4 tenths of a second a lap, so i would think that he is 2 or 3 laps lighter than the Ferraris but he is far from running on vapor.

Kubica coninues to show heidfeld who's boss...

Ron Dennis may not like the situation at the moment as he said prior to this race that at barcelona we would see the real pace of the teams... 3rd row can't be fun... or maybe it is true that Alonso improved the macs by 6 tenths... and has now improved the Renault as well...

And another great showing by bourdais... maybe he will get the lift up to the proper RB team instead of Vettel... The jaw isn't making anyone happy at the moment

Maybe Max Mosely should change his name to Max Hardcore for the Monaco GP and get a skank to whip on top of a golfcart???

SB comments after qualifying 16th

Sebastien Bourdais, Toro Rosso (16th, Q2 - 1m 21.724s):
"Yesterday I said that if everything went our way it would be possible to get into Q2. Obviously, I was quite happy to be thirteenth in Q1 because it really wasn't the greatest lap, as I had quite a lot of traffic in front of me. Unfortunately, the track conditions kept improving and we were running out of adjustments to dial out the understeer in Q2.

"It was a bit frustrating, because it felt as though the car had some more in it. Then, on my last run I aborted the lap because I had a moment, which was down to the fact we tried something different to try and get rid of the understeer, but it did not give us grip and it upset the balance."

Alonso says he'll be fighting for 6th place in the race. He could be managing expectations, but I susect he's right.

Kubica  Bourdais  Nakajima

I'm sorry to see Super Aguri going away. They did a credible job on a shoestring and scored points well last season for a backmarker squad, particularly at Montreal.

Vettel taken out on first lap contact.

Bourdais didn't have a great start either, as he's listed 18th.

I didn't realize the safety car was out.

Piquet went off and Bourdais gained a spot.

Piquet has gone off again after contact with Bourdais. (Actually they both went off, Bourdais at fault?) Bourdais pits. He's done.

How can you go under the tyres. I feel ill.

The car has been pulled from under the tyre wall. No word on Kovalainen.

Possible concussion, bumps and bruises, otherwise Heikki is ok. Hopefully he'll only have to miss one race, if that.

I ended up going through the race quickly on the DVR because of the draft, but it's crazy that people say things like he's OK, except for a concussion. Like a broken wrist would've been worse. Just because the brain is pretty resilient, it smashing into the skull is not minor. When will people come around to this?

If he ain't dead, he's ok.

Point taken.

But they are race drivers after all. If the Unser's and most Andretti's have taught us nothing else, it's that you really don't need much of a brain to drive a race car. :p

They should consider limiting the depth of the tire wall to 3 or 4 tires IMO. Drivers getting their heads buried in there causes alot of problems in terms of impacts and extraction

Crap. Missed the record and there aren't any replays scheduled on Speed. :irked: Plus, F1 had all the clips of the tire wall shunt removed from Youtube.

Once again F1 demonstrates that it's rescue/medical approach is appalling. A driver in a crash waits while the medical car drives around the circuit and the only strong arms are untrained course workers. It took a long time to get him out of the car. If he'd been bleeding badly he'd be dead now.

Bernie has made $ billions of of this circus and has been too cheap to fund a proper safety squad which pretty much says it all.

Berntard is a throwback to the days when driver safety was not even an afterthought.

Plus the helichopper didn't leave until 30 minutes later. WTF?

I remember in Dr. Steve Olvey's book Rapid Response he said he had to yell at the pilots before they would take Zanardi to the hospital.

It's odd that the driver go on and on about the safety of the track with regards to smoothness, runoff, barriers, etc. but say nothing about how long the medical team takes.

But, this is the key difference between American racing and racing elsewhere in the world. Unlike in the states, the track marshalls are actually expected to help the driver out as needed. So, initial assessment is done by the nearest official. If the driver is ok and can get out, then they help them.

By that time they flew him off it was simply to get checked out at the hospital. There were no clinically evident serious injuries that would require the helo to leave any sooner. The helo ride was more to beat traffic than anything else.

That said, the initial response time of a trained rescue crew is pitiful in F1. It always has been.

No idea what you were looking for when you found that, but it doesn't have a thing to do with F1 or racing. :saywhat: I managed to find another clip:

NASCAR doesn't and they should be equally ashamed.

I understand the differences full well, I just happen to think it crap in F1's case.

Oh my god...major flash back. Four years ago at the Cart preview in Long Beach that guy was walking around in a cowboy hat with Catalina. Thought he might be an ex driver or something as he had the look and attitude. I found out later the name on his jacket was actually him. His videos are totally gross. Yuck. (I don't mean porn is gross either, just his dreck).
