I had a feeling that's why AJ took that 223 from Dare. He "knew" that once the field was full, that was it. ;)

I thought the same thing. Why bother waiting til later in the day? I'm sure TG made it clear to everyone that Fisher was not to be bumped. Qualify the car, go home, give your crew an afternoon off, and watch the rest on tv.:shakehead

Makes it all feel kind of orchestrated. TG walks the garage handing out checks. Says to fill the field and stop. Sarah has a back-up, but there's no way she'll get it going any faster than what she's run already. Dare lays down a sacrificial lap to protect Sarah in case a malcontent decides to make a run. AJ runs Dare again in the 14 car to bump the malcontent. Yep, there's all kinds of wheelin and dealin going on at Indy this year.

But, but, but...this years Indy 500 has the strongest field in a long time!!!

Are these morons forgetting that what makes this field so "strong" is that it was imported via CART? Do they really believe this field is a product of the IRL...like it was theirs all along?

Pathetic.

It was cut and dried.

I've been to a lot of bump days and this wasn't one.

Oh well, on to raceday.

I caught bits of today's coverage. The tell tale signs where that IV was in street clothes and Sarah's team were sitting around doing nothing. It was clear that arrangements were made in advance to fill the field and the agreement was that no one was to be bumped. Had it been a real bump day, Sarah would have been *****ting bricks and the team would have done whatever it took to get her another car, and IV would have been in whatever backup he hadn't wrecked yet trying to find speed to defend his spot if he was bumped.

Today was a disgrace. When I think of John Mahler saying to his crew, "Either I'm going to qualify this car or go home in a box", or Jan Opperman hopping into a car after being bumped earlier in the day and somehow finding the speed to bump Eldon ("I don't fu****ing believe this is happening) Rassmusson, I get sick thinking about what happened this year.

Hell, at least when they had 25/8 a car could still get bumped even if it was the 10th fastest qualifier.

Oh heck Dave, you don't have to have that long of memory to get sick. They have a commercial running on the IMS video, trying to sell seats for race day. It goes, See Indy legends, Unser, Andretti, Hornish and Fisher! Im not kidding!

Sarah is a legend? I thought Ralph Depalma was a legend? I thought Ted Horn was a legend? I thought Eddie Sachs was a legend? I thought you had to do something extraordinary to become a legend? Sarah and Sam? They were in the race? what did they do? Crash? DNF? ????

How about Legend Carl Forberg?
How about Legend Jerry Karl?
How about Legend Bob Scott?

A legend is Jack Turner flipping down the front stretch three years in a row. A legend is Ralph Hepburn, the grand old man, driving the Novi. A legend is Tom Sneva standing on the gas everytime he took a green flag. A legend is not to be made for convenience, nor ticket sales.

Had this race been left alone, no marketing sham would have been needed. Racing seems to take care of itself that way.

On the flip side, Legend Cory Witherall, Scott Harrington were in the IPS race. Ah, The stars again shall rise

The politics of it all
Did you hear Jeff Ward when interviewed about his chances of securing a ride and qualifying for the 500? (something like), "....it's getting into politics now, you know bumping....(a pause)........someone" He actually deserves to be in the dang thing too

So when are the drivers that have been left out of the vision, the ones that were promised so much going to speak out? What are they afraid of? They don't have rides anyway and it doesn't look they'll get one anytime soon.

They have their 33. Big deal.

Best cars? Nope.
Best drivers? Nope.
Best teams? Nope.

Best waste of a Sunday afternoon? Yup.

Jeff Ward was there incase one of the nine designated wankers could not peice together six laps without the car falling apart or crashing. Ganasi was waiting for his $1,000,000.00 ransom to qualify the car if the total was less than 33.

Bump day had all thge suspense of a porno flick.
