Since ChampCar took a dump over the past year, I've been getting back into playing and getting my herd on. If you have axes, post 'em here.

These are the last two electrics sixstrings I own (I have a couple cheap basses that I use for recording). A snap shot of when I quit playing in the clubs. I was lucky in that I had a mentor who owned the local guitar shop. I practically grew up sitting on a stool listening to the old guys chew the fat about classic amps, guitars and music. Then I started teaching guitar there around the age of 17. When we really started to get on a serious gig schedule the owner would let me trade in guitars/amps as much as I wanted. Practically every few weeks I would show up with a different rig sometimes to disastrous results (working the kinks out of a new rig on stage is never pro, hee hee. Drum sticks hurt). But enough about me. :tony:

Anyway, these were the last two I had when I walked away.

The Rick is a late 80's 360 solid body with Rick-O-Sound. It was my main guitar and has faster action than any Jackson/Charvel/Ibanez that I had in the 80's. It was perfect for the type of music we did (Toad the Wet Sprocket, college alternative kinda stuff. 90's underground) I had it running into a Matchless 2 12". Great combo!

The Strat is a mid '90's American. Nothing special. It was one of my backup guitars when I blew strings on the Rick.

The acoustic is a cheapi Takamine that I write love songs on. :gomer:

I also have a mid '60's Silvertone that I'm in the process of restoring. It's in peices right now.

The piano is a 1932 Stuyvesant from New York.

1977 (+/-, you know how fender was) tele deluxe.

i also have a d-28, and two other crappy acoustics, kept for sentimental reasons / for the eventual opportunity of smashing them on stage.

How heavy is that? Is that one of those 'carved from granite' deluxes?

One of my favorite guitars was a metallic sea foam green tele with a maple neck. I sold it to a guy who drove down from Boston to pick it up. Weird.

I designed the white 8-string -- I love the way it looks, but the balance is horrible -- alder body with a maple/graphite neck. I pretty much play the fretless exclusively on those rare occasions when I have a gig anymore...

it is a bit of a tank, and it did take some getting used to. but it does have a nice little relief carved into the back of it so the top edge doesn't jab you in the gut, er, ribcage.

Carved from granite, dipped in plastic... Thing is, they play and sound great. I referred to mine as the Canoe Paddle (not sure why), but it was the one I'd reach for.

That's pretty funny.

Reminds of the time I saw Tony Levin playing a custom-built Musicman 3-string bass...

Ah, so you're the guy who bought the Roland. :D Nice Ric, I've always liked the jetglo.

I'm the last person to talk smack about someone else's guitars, though. I've had an abnormal fascination with knockoffs (and since I don't play out anywhere, necessity hasn't reared its ugly head). The only one I ever play anymore is an early '70s Japanese (probably Ibanez) copy of a '71 Gibson EB-3 slothead. There's a generic Precision copy around here somewhere, and a fairly recent ES-355 ripoff, for those ultra-delusional moments when I think I have any business playing guitar.

No pix, 'cause I'm lazy (and, frankly, it's not the most inspiring lot to look at).

Ahhh, but I got it at 82% off the original price! ;)

It's a surprisingly nice-sounding bass, even without the synthesizer.

Hey, no dissin' the Roland. I had a friend drop off his brand new silver G707 at my place, where it lived until he decided to sell it several years later. Never actually saw him pick it up :saywhat: .

I've got a '68 Vox Delta (ultra-rare Phantom body w/twin dual-coils & crazy active electronics) I play through a '55 Gibsonette- bought 'em both back in high school. I've also got a fairly thrashed early 70's Yamaha acoustic, an early deep-bowl Ovation 12 (camping guitar :tony: ), and a Maccaferri G16 (yep, plastic guitar geekiness).
