Since the U.S. conservative radio types love to demonize Canada over our protecting your deserters, thought I'd pass this on:

The court refused today to hear the appeals of Jeremy Hinzman and Brandon Hughey, who were rejected by the Immigration and Refugee Board in 2005.

The board ruled they would not be at risk of their lives if they returned to the United States, nor were they at risk of "cruel and unusual treatment or punishment."


Apparantly our courts have quite consistently deported deserters, although we did protect draft dodgers during the Vietnam War (on the grounds that Canada had not imposed a draft so their actions were not against the law in Canada).
