If I could give you an official release I would, but Tim Macrow the 2007 Australian Formula 3 and Drivers Champion will test for Jensen Motorsport some time next week at Roebling Road. Tim is a great guy, I've known him for about 18 months, and he is very polite, very honest and bloody fast! Given a good shot, he will be bloody quick in the Atlantic. I wish him all the best. Below are various shots taken post championship win including one with yours truly.

no i'd be the fat looking one (i'm not that fat in reality) in the white 2007 champion shirt that i made. i took all the photos. not my best shots of tim's car from the weekend. just a couple (out of about 3000) that i grabbed quickly.

I took about 3.... :gomer:

I hope they can continue to build up the profile of the series. From the little I saw, it looked good.

next year is going to be huge. the championship class winner (driving up to F307 cars) will win 80K or a Formula Renault Asia V6 Series drive. National class winner (driving up to F304 cars) will get 40K or a fully funded 09 Championship Class season, but they must use an opel engine. i could tell you more, but then i would have to be killed ;) (yes i know you think that would be a good thing :p)

Pretty cool man. Who's the fat guy sitting on the elf can in the back ground?

How many cars does the Australian F3 have in a typical race? I had a few friends race in Formula Holden (now F.4000), one guy I raced against (and beat) in Barber Dodge is doing that now; Davide Amaduzzi.

aus f3 has had a few problems this year with cars. i know the problems, and suffice to say they will be rectified i can't expand further on it, apart from saying it primarily related to exposure. saying that, we had into the final race of the season, 3 drivers who could win. we also had a few who were making up the numbers in national class who had to pull out, because with the drought they couldn't afford to race any longer (they are farmers). we have averaged about 15 cars at most rounds, which isn't too bad. for the australian grand prix, iirc 6 cars came from the asian series and joined 24 of our own, to make a grid of 30.

interest with the prizes next year is enormous, many people are buying older cars that were unutilised to take on the national and trophy classes. i know of at least 8 2007 model cars coming in next year. a good driver in a 2004 model car should be able to beat them, that is the beauty of it. the rules don't change a lot in f3, so the development from generation to generation isn't extensive.

as for formula slow as we now know it-CAMS (Australia's FIA affiliated ASN) killed the category two years ago. AMRS which is a series run by the Australian Auto Sport Alliance now runs them as F3000V6 in the Ozboss races this year. they have more often than not had less than 5 cars.

oh, and the fatguy is one of the other racer's dads.

Formula Holden/Brabham/Holden/4000 is a story on how to run a series into the ground. :shakehead

they should be in historic racing by now....slow and pretty dangerous. they get their butt handed to them by a 1986 1.8L Formula Atlantic...

TIM MACROW IMPRESSES IN MAIDEN CHAMP CAR ATLANTIC TEST

The Jensen Motorsport Champ Car Atlantic racer, the same as driven by Tim Macrow in the US this week.

2007 Kumho Tyres Australian Formula 3 Champion Tim Macrow has impressed in his recent Champ Car Atlantic test with Jensen Motorsport.

23-year-old Macrow completed nearly 400 kilometres at the challenging Roebling Road raceway in Georgia on Tuesday this week and left with a clear ambition to race in the premier Open-Wheel development series in the United States next season.

Importantly, Jensen Motorsport owner Eric Jensen said that Macrow created a strong first impression with his squad, who will enter their 12th season of Atlantic competition in 2008.

The Champ Car Atlantic series features a US$2m prize to go towards a drive in the Champ Car World Series, used to good effect by Team Australia driver and 2006 Atlantic champ Simon Pagenaud this season.

Atlantic cars feature 300-hp Mazda-Cosworth engines and significantly more grip than the Formula 3 cars Tim has raced in Australia since 2005.

Macrow, from Melbourne, said that his first taste of the Atlantic machine left him wanting more.

”I had an awesome few days with the Jensen team in Georgia,” he said. “The cars are fantastic to drive and I’ve never experienced so much grip. You’ve got to have faith and just pitch them at the corners and know that they will stick thanks to the grip they generate.

“The cars are very physical to drive and by the end of the day I was pretty exhausted, but I adapted my driving style throughout the day and by the end I was really happy with my times and with what I achieved.

"The track itself was very fast and really challenging and showed how good the cars are.

“The Jensen team are a great bunch of guys and really good to work with. Their engineering staff have a lot of experience, and the entire team seemed pretty happy with what I did.” He said.

Jensen Motorsport team owner Eric Jensen was pleased with Macrow's performance.

”Tim made a very good show in his Champ Car Atlantic test,” Jensen said.

”We created a very defined agenda of various things to test, and on his new tire run he accomplished a very good time.

“He was exhausted by the end of his test day but he pulled it all together and set a lap 1 second quicker, on new tires, than his previous best on the day.

“The best thing about his new tire run was that he accomplished his best time on lap no. 2, which is important because in Atlantic events there are often red flags during qualifying so a driver needs to get his time very quickly.

“His attitude working with engineers and mechanics was also excellent,” Jensen added. “It shows well that he would represent our sponsors and motivate our team to push hard to help him.”

Macrow will now return home following his whirlwind trip to the ‘States to concentrate on raising the sponsorship needed to fund the next stage in his career.

and that will be the hardest part. i'm thinking maybe Jetstar or V-Australia might put a little in with both scheduled to start mainland USA flights in 2008. If you can think of any other likelies let me know and i'll pass them on to the appropriate people.
