I guess Coyne figured they were better off destroying tubs in front of the paying fans. :saywhat:
So does he make it out of the rookie practice with an intact car?

As bad a driver one might think Alex is, I like him as a man. Every time I've seen him interviewed or read what he said somewhere, he seems to be a humble (considering his accomplishments, deservedly so) and polite person. I'm sure he is apprehensive about going 210+ all day too, but let's not count the trashed tubs before they are trashed. There's a chicken and egg joke in there somewhere...

And come on... cheers to Dale Coyne for returning to CART, too!

Sounds like Alex was taught the English language by an Aussie?

People from Singapore I've met speak English like Alex does, although I have been told he has spent a lot of time in England over his lifetime.

Why single out Alex Yoong? Tiago Monteiro has never driven an oval either, and I'd be willing to bet Rodolfo Lavin, Joel Camathias and perhaps Mario Haberfeld haven't either. And Sebastien Bourdais has had only the sketchiest tryout too. Oval qualifying should be hair-raising.

Larry Foyt, err, I mean Lavin, drove ovals (poorly) in Atlantics.

The Coyne drivers Camathias and Yoong haven't at all. The others have, either in Atlantics or are on teams which thought a couple of days burning circles might not be a bad idea both for the driver and finding a setup.

Actually, Lavin wasn't that bad on ovals in Atlantics, but only beacuse Shank had a damn good setup that even allowed Sam Hornish to win his only Atlantics race. But then Atlantics cars are on cruise control on ovals which might turn to be a problem after all in Champ Cars for Lavin who makes Shiggy look like a car control specialist. The Coyne twins would have been moving chicanes had they tested anyway. Bourdais should do just fine if Newman-Haas can find a half-decent oval setup.
