My old High School buddy Paul Byrd is not doing so bad himself. 4 hit shut out last time out.

Yep, Byrd's had a great yr. So has Fausto Carmona.

I've been enjoying watching that gap to Detroit steadily grow over the last couple weeks. Based on who's hot right now, an Indians-Padres series is looking likely.

Here's hoping they keep playing this way through late October!

that is the big test... LA Angels of Anaheim just tore through the slumping Mariners, and have a pretty good shot at going against the Yankees or Red Sox, but there upcoming series could have a much bigger meaning in a few weeks ifyouknowwhatImean, yo!:tony:

Big playoff implications indeed. Right now the Tribe would play @ the BoSox to open while the Halos get the Bombers. Of course, considering the Tribe is 0fer '07 vs. the Bombers, I'm not sure the Tribe would want to play them in the playoffs. :gomer:

And considering how the Yanks play the Angels, they would much rather like to play anyone but them.

But as hot as Arod is right now he could beat almost anyone by himself. 2HR in one inning last night.

True dat. But he's pretty sick to watch right now.

I saw Jeter interviewed after the game last night. He's just shocked (and perhaps even a little unnerved) by the way Arod is hitting.

True, very true, butttt that was an Indians team that was in their worst slide of the yr. Now, very different. Furthermore, on paper, the Tribe's rotation should blow out the Yanks' rotation.

Dude, April and August? Carmona and Byrd pitched and lost last month, and they collectively scored 6 runs in the series. Perhaps with a playoff rotation, but we'll see. Frankly, I think the younger Tribe might be spooked a bit on the big stage. Again, we'll see....me thinks Le Tigres are toast.

On paper yes.

-- Wang seems to have fixed whatever was wrong with him
-- Pettite was 6-0 in August and has had about only 2-3 bad outings all year. Run support killed him early in the year.
-- Jaba Chamberlain is unreal. His slider is unlike anything I've ever seen. Like a 95mph curveball. Huge break. Tops out at over 100. And nothing unnerves him
-- Hughes and Kennedy look to be the real deal. Totally confident, agressive and unnerved. They never pitched with a runner on third base their entire year in the minor. Kennedy just did it for the first time his last start.

The youngsters seem to be a perfect fit for playing in NY.

Now if we can just keep Mussina and Clemens off the mound.

And Farnsworth

Garret Anderson already has an RBI tonight - 12th straight game.

It's a pity he's only got a few seasons left (if that). I'd like to see him get close to 3,000 hits somehow - but it's not going to happen. Unlikely HOF candidate, unfortunately, but if he snaps the ML RBI streak somehow that would would be a resume builder.

If that's a test, so far they've earned a big "F" :p

Angels are a very good team this year - there's a championship vibe here.

Ya'll salvage the split, a B minus is in the cards.

Sorry Cubs and Brewers fans, the Cardinals will take the division this year with a sub 500 record after your boys blow it. That and the 'birds don't even have a legitimate major league pitching staff.
