Tagliani not paid since 2004

Pierre Lecours the Newspaper of Montreal 03/09/2007

One is far from the beautiful years of CART in the Champ series Because One starts to ask for for how long it will survive, so much the situation worsens.

The sponsors are very few, the races are cancelled, the majority of the pilots must pay out of their own pocket to run, very little are paid... and some, like Alexandre Tagliani, who according to their contract should be paid, are not!

With amost mo salary from Team Australia the two last seasons, the Québécois driver returned with Paul Gentilozzi, who this time offered a contract guaranteed with wages, paid expenditure and percentage of the purses to him, for the present season. Tag accepted - it did not really have other option - even if Gentilozzi owed him 50 000$ for the 2004 season. "Before signing the contract, he told me he would pay what he ows me", told us Tagliani.

Without incoming money for the last several weeks, a rumour has circulated stating that Gentilozzi has serious money worries with its team following the withdrawal of the Lexington sponsorship. "We cannot even buy certain parts which we need for the car. They have to be borrowed from other teams ", told us members of his team, off tte record, when we were in Edmonton.

In June, we were informed that Tagliani has not been paid since the beginning of the season. he has received neither his wages, neither his travelling expenses, nor his purses. When the teams arrived to Europe, we learned of the RSPORTS split. Several reasons were called upon, but the only true one seems to be the money worries of Gentilozzi, which would have several unpaid invoices in particular to certain members of his personnel.

Tagliani almost didn't race in Europe because Gentilozzi required group PSM Marketing the last sponsorship payment for the canadian races. Alan Labrosse, which manages the career of the Québécois pilot now, required that Tags be paid by Gentilozzi before giving the sum due to him. Furious, Gentilozzi made threats, but yesterday morning, an hour before the race, he finally concluded an agreement with Tagliani.

"Gentilozzi promised that the sum due will be versed to me and he has commited himself to pay me completely even if other debtors creditor await to be paid."

Tagliani has been confronted with this situation for several months. This outcome will relieve him of an enormous pressure. Rumours coming from Europe say Tags will be replaced for the two last races of the year by a paying driver, because for the moment Gentilozzi's tank seems dry!

If this is true, and Gentilozzi really is one of the owners of the series, then the integrity of all the owners depends upon Gentilozzi paying his people.

Can anyone confirm this?

I thought it was already established that Gentilozzi sold his stake.

That is pretty bad. Also, shame on the author for putting stuff said off the record in their article.

Also, I don't remember, but wasn't PG involved with Lexington in some way? If so, how do you lose that sponsorship?

I'm just amused that you used the words integrity and Gentilozzi in the same sentence.

My understanding is that the owners are KK, GF, DP, and PG. If not, why did PG speak at the recent press conference?

what did tag expect; that pg became a changed man all of a sudden? like the article says, he had no choice. race in ccws for free or race grand-am...hey, at least he isn't bringing money like 80% of the grid. :p

Gentilozzi is just following KK's instructions to stop funding unprofitable teams. Saving starts at home, don'tchaknow. :p

Someone posted an SEC filing on Lexington Energy. The part sponsoring Rocketsports isn't even up and running yet. And they have lost several million dollars. It looked more like PG was sponsoring Lexington than Lexington sponsoring PG.

And I think the 'speaking off the record' part lost a little in translation. I think it meant the person spoke on anonymity.

There was an RSPORTS PR pitch list erroneously posted to the CC website a couple races back. It said that Tag and Bronte are involved in real estate in Vegas. They renovate the house (Tag) and decorate (Bronte) before selling. I know that costs money to do, but it could supplement the lack of racing income we're reading about here.

amount of rocketsports employee turnover since 2003 season... 60 plus people on a 25 person crew.
amount owes to employees by PG thru out the past seasons... hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Asking PG to pay what he owes you, having him say he's broke so you have to wait, but then the very next day see him drives up in a brand new Bentley.... priceless.....

BTW, his nickname around the rocketsports crew are...
Gentil-owes-me and Gentil-hoes-me

I'm so glad this forum is not like the other one that have some paper car maker counts you down for telling the truth.

It has been reported elsewhere that Tag has personal sponsorship that pays him about $500k/year for driving the car.

While he might not be getting paid by PG, he isn't racing for free.

With all due respect, Pat, and I do mean that as I think you are great, you have been lied to, and it wasn't by me.

You are being manipulated by the BEST! I don't blame you as I have seen it up close. There are times I KNEW what was being said to me was not true, yet I started to doubt myself. Your "friend" is ALWAYS going to have an answer to refute anything and he will deliver it with a conviction that few can. There is usually a thin thread of truth to what he says that stitches together some known facts and states other things as facts that would be really hard to know otherwise. I don't want to spend too much time dissecting the mechanisms of dishonesty, but I think the answer to how he can be so good at this can probably be found here. Having spent some time with him with his guard down, I think DEEP down he is a good guy too, but his ego is in charge most of the time, the by-product of which is lots of pain and suffering to those around him. I feel bad for him too as it has gotten to the point that he believes most of what he says too which might explain the conviction.

I am comfortable for the most part letting my reputation speak for itself, but it makes me sad as the venom that is spewed at you is really a proxy for the person who is using you to do their dirty work. You should take it as a compliment though, as you were recruited for a reason: your former standing on these boards when your view was passionate, but largely unbiased.

The further out on that limb you crawl, the sadder I feel. You are a big boy and can make your own decisions, but you might want to step back a bit and try to gain some perspective. I have thought about telling you this several times when you have been out there totally exposed leading the defense, but never had the heart to get it thru the keyboard. There is a saying: "You can only tell someone once that their spouse is cheating on them" After that you just have to sit back and just be a friend. Be well.

Peace,

TK

PS Ehud and JCollins28, thanks for the PM's. It is nice to be missed. Those were good times! The good times continue for me, just in other places;-)Apparently, I haven't made enough posts to make PM's to other members, so I had to answer here. Was hoping to see all of you in Phoenix, but will now have to wait for LB next year.

Very symptomatic. Rose colored glasses. No long term planning. Bagdad Paulie.

We've all met and been exposed to people like that, whether it be through work, school, family or community. The "fool me once" at the end is soooo true with PG. But I truly believe that our friend, the top innerweb journalist, is so far down the line with believing the line of crap he has been fed that he will have a full meltdown should he finally wake up and admit he's been used.

This is about the 5th thread here about PG and his substandard ethics and practices. They REALLY need him out of the series NOW. I've heard friends & family members complain about not being paid, ripped off, hung out to dry at RocketSports for years, so none of this is much of a surprise. Phillips sacked up and told the truth. Now the big Q left is this:

Is KK listening? And will he do the right thing? Give Petit or Bachelart the money and run that 17th car.

Insomniac
09-05-07, 04:59 PM
Well that explains why TK is no longer in the booth. I didn't make the connection until now. Duh!

Only Bachelart needs the money, and that's debatable. Helping him get a sponsor is a better answer.

Petit should be running two cars anyway.

I'd also prefer to see PG leave on his own accord because he can't afford it and because no one will work with him because there are jobs elsewhere in the series that actually pay.

Complicating question for me is whether PG is still a series owner in any way, shape or form. If he is, it is complicated. Funneling slim revenue to the likes of Bachelart is hard to justify when a series owner is not getting enough to run a team. It's situations like this that make you wish you had a board to knock a few heads together (or out).
